Az elmúlt 20 évben az igazságügyi pszichológiában végbement fejlodés alapvetoen megváltoztatta a hagyományos kriminálpszichológiáról való gondolkodásmódunkat. A kezdeti megközelítés - mely a bunözoi viselkedés pszichológiai magyarázatára, a bírósági szakértésre és a börtönbeli rehabilitáció lélektani kérdéseire fókuszált - extenzív és intenzív módon jelentosen kibovült. A pszichológia alkalmazása - különösen a nyugati országokban - polgárjogot nyert az igazságszolgáltatás teljes folyamatában (nyomozás, kihallgatás, bírói döntés, büntetés-végrehajtás), emellett elotérbe kerültek olyan kérdések, mint az áldozattá válás lélektana, a lakosság attitudje a bunözéssel szemben, a bunmegelozés pszichológiai kérdései stb. Jelen tanulmányban foglalkozunk az igazságügyi pszichológia-kriminálpszichológia elméleti, fogalmi kérdéseivel és a kriminalisztikai pszichológia tárgykörébe tartozó két témával: a bunözoi profilalkotással és a tanúkihallgatás új módszerével, a kognitív interjúval.
