A vizsgálatban 263 egyetemi hallgató (140 nő és 123 férfi) vett részt. Kérdőívek segítségével a téri tájékozódási stratégiák, szorongások, félelmek, korai tárgykapcsolatok és navigációs élmények összefüggésrendszerét vizsgáltuk meg. Feltételezésünk szerint a személy preferált tájékozódási stratégiája nemcsak a környezet fizikai paraméterein, valamint a navigáló személy nemi szerepén múlik, de a szorongás és a humán környezettel való kapcsolati viszony is befolyásolja. Eredményeink szerint idegen helyek felderítése során a nők a férfiakhoz mérten égtáj szerint kevésbé tájékozódnak. A szorongás a nők és a férfiak esetén egyaránt gátolja az égtáj szerinti tájékozódási stratégia használatát, ugyanakkor elősegíti az útvonal-követési stratégia preferenciáját. Az útvonalkövető stratégia preferencia nőknél magas agorafóbiás értékkel, a férfiaknál ugyanakkor magas szociális félelmekkel jár együtt. További kiegészítő eredményeink fényében állíthatjuk, hogy a nők magasabb szorongás- és félelemértékei, aktív protekciót kereső kóping mutatóknak is tekinthetők, ezek alapján világosan látható, hogy a nők inkább protektív, míg a férfiak inkább preventív térbiztosítási szemlélettel rendelkeznek.
