A kényszeres zavar (obszesszív-kompulzív zavar; OCD) élettartam-prevalenciája gyermekekben és serdülőkben is magas, 18 éves korra a 2-3%-ot is elérheti. Az OCD kezelésében az ajánlott pszichoterápiás módszer a kognitív viselkedésterápia, amelynek hatékonyságát számos vizsgálat igazolta felnőttekben és gyermekekben egyaránt. Gyermek- és serdülőkorú páciensek esetében a kognitív viselkedésterápiás módszereket adaptálnunk kell az életkori sajátosságok, valamint a juvenilis kórforma sajátosságainak figyelembevételével. Az OCD kognitív és tanuláselméleti modelljeinek vizsgálata gyermek és serdülő mintán hozzájárul a juvenilis kórforma megértéséhez és a kognitív viselkedésterápiás módszerek fejlődéséhez.
