A közös figyelem kialakulása jelentős mérföldkő a csecsemő társas kapcsolatainak világában. Az utóbbi évtized intenzív kutatása feltárta a közös figyelem csecsemő- és kisgyermekkori fejlődési szakaszait és szerepét a később kibontakozó társas kompetencia területén. Jelen tanulmánynak kettős célja van; egyrészt összefoglalást kíván adni a közös figyelmi képesség fejlődéséről és szerepéről a társas képességek kialakulásában, másrészt áttekintjük a közös figyelem tipikustól eltérő fejlődésmenetét. A kora gyermekkorban megmutatkozó közös figyelemi zavar több, később manifesztálódó pszichopatológiai állapot előzményének tekinthető. Legpregnánsabban az autizmusspektrum-zavarban jelentkezik, de más szociális kommunikációs zavarnál és kapcsolati problémáknál is megfigyelhető az elvárttól eltérő megjelenési forma.
