Az interperszonális elutasítás komoly következményekkel járó sérelem, erós negatív érzéseket válthat ki. A megbocsátás egy lehetséges módja annak, hogy ezektól a kellemetlen érzésektól megszabaduljunk, a sérelmet követó jóvátételi törekvések pedig elósegíthetik a megbocsátást. Tanulmányunkban az elutasítást követó jóvátétel megbocsátásra gyakorolt hatását annak függvényében vizsgáljuk, hogy a jóvátétel mennyire teljes körű, illetve kinek a döntése alapján érkezik vagy nem érkezik. A kutatásunk újszerűsége, hogy az intézményesen rendelt, illetve a sértó fél által hozott jóvátételi döntés hatását abban az esetben is vizsgálja, amikor a jóvátételi döntés nemleges.Kérdóíves kutatást végeztünk 323 fó részvételével. Az eredményeink azt mutatták, hogy a jóvátétel elósegíti a megbocsátást, de a teljes körű jóvátétel nem bizonyult hatékonyabbnak a részleges jóvátételnél. Továbbá az intézményesen rendelt jóvátétel inkább elósegítette a megbocsátást, mint az a jóvátétel, ami a sérelmet okozó féltól származott. A tanulmányunkban az eredmények gyakorlati alkalmazhatóságáról is beszámolunk.
