Previous morphological studies suggest that Hintonia standleyana and H. latiflora are separate species. Present study was responsible to find genetic support - if there is any - of the segregation of the two questionable taxa with DNA sequence analysis. Three data sets were examined: ITS (internal transcribed spacer), chloroplast's rps16 and trnF-L chloroplast intron and spacer. Between the divergences of the entire studied DNA regions were low, but the level of differentiation was found the same among other, widely accepted species, belonging to the Catesbaeeae-Chiococceae complex as well as the Hintonia taxa.
