A tanulmány áttekinti azokat a szakirodalomban fellelhető kutatásokat, melyek három optimizmus konstruktum (diszpozicionális, attribúciós és szituáció-specifikus) immun­működésre gyakorolt hatását vizsgálják. Az eredmények szerint az optimizmus immunműködésre kifejtett hatása komplex és olykor ellentmondásos. A szituáció-specifikus és attribúciós optimizmus jobb bejóslója az immunműködésnek, mint az általános vonás op­timizmus. Stressz- és konfliktusmentes helyzetben az optimizmus hatékonyabb im­mun­funkciókhoz kapcsolódott. A szakirodalmi áttekintés szerint az optimizmus abban az esetben gyengítette az immunműködést, amikor a személyek kontrollálhatatlan, vagy hosszabb időn át fennálló stresszhelyzettel szembesülnek.
