A high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method was developed for simple and rapid chemical analysis of Lancea tibetica by using 11 marker compounds. HPTLC was performed on precoated silica 60F254 plates with two mobile phase systems, one was hexanes-ethyl acetate-formic acid 6:3.5:0.5 by volume to identify three furofuranolignans (sylvatesmin, (+)-piperrtol, and horsfieldin), β-sitosterol, and oleanolic acid. The other one was chloroform-methanol-water-formic acid 7:2.5:0.4:0.2 by volume to identify other four furofuranolignans (phillyrin, tibeticoside A, lantibeside C, and lantibeside), verbascoside and isoverbascoside. The developed method was successfully applied for the identification of five L. tibetica samples collected from different regions in China. The developed methods were validated for specificity, stability, repeatability, and robustness.
