The complex therapy of colorectal polyps is a serious challenge not only for endoscopic professionals but also for surgeons.
Until 2014 the surgical therapy of colorectal polyps was reported by the traditional surgical per anum polypectomies or local excisions (LE) at the Department of Surgery, University of Szeged. The disadvantages of these traditional transanal surgical techniques are well known by everyone: high resection line positivity rate, low “en bloc” resection rate, and difficulties with lesions located higher than 5 cm, etc. Based on all the above, the technical development of transanal surgeries was needed: not only a new surgical method (TAMIS, transanal minimally invasive surgery), but also a well-known but not yet applied surgical technique, such as TEM (trans anal endoscopic microsurgery). We developed and expanded the professional and material conditions of surgical gastroenterology, including surgical endoscopy, besides introducing new surgical methods in our Department.
We have taken serious steps in the complex, multidisciplinary treatment of colorectal polyps with introducing new surgical techniques and the development of our Endoscopic Laboratory.
