A forrásmonitorozás fejlődése során éretté váló szándékvezérelt folyamatok aktivitása segíti a múltbeli reprezentációk pontos előhívását, valamint az automatikus folyamatok működése okán betolakodó asszociatív reprezentációk gátlását. A forrásemlékezet fejlődésének kontextusában arra a kérdésre is választ kaphatunk, miként válnak egy tárgyhoz kapcsolódó (perceptuális) tulajdonságok a tárgy (konceptuálisan) szerves részévé.Vizsgálatunkban arra kerestünk választ, hogy változik-e a forrásemlékezeti teljesítmény, amennyiben egy perceptuális emlékezeti tesztben a képeken látható tárgyak színét kongruencia és diagnoszticitás alapján manipuláljuk, ezután az egyes résztvevőknek a tesztfázisban a korábban látott képek helyett a képen látható tárgyak nevét mutatjuk be, majd megkérjük a résztvevőket, hogy idézzék fel a korábban látott tárgyak színét.Akódolás-specificitási hipotézis, valamint a TAP-modell mind megmagyarázhatnák, hogy miért találunk eltéréseket a gyerekek és a felnőttek között az előhívási teljesítményben, azonban eredményeink — gyerekek esetében jobb teljesítmény a képi tesztfázisban, a teljesítménykülönbségek hiánya a kép-kép és kép-szó feltételek között a kongruens feltételben, valamint az inkongruens feltételben feltárt hibamintázat — a forrásmonitorozás mögött rejlő kontrollfolyamatok életkori különbségeinek hipotézisét, valamint a konceptuális reprezentációk kialakulásának érési folyamatát támasztják alá.
