Abstract  

Nuclear-capture gamma-ray activation analysis of the elements Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and W in refined steel was carried out using a collimated reactor neutron beam and a Ge(Li) detector. A short description of the method, the detector system, electronics, shieldings and sample preparation is given. A correction of iron and chromium peak areas is necessary in the spectra of all samples, because of the scattering of neutrons into the detector system by the samples. This part of the background interference can be evaluated by means of the nuclear capture gamma-ray of lead (7380 keV).
