Joseph Tallherr worked from 1782 as a Deputy Architect of the Ungarische Hofkammer, under Franz Anton Hillebrandt. The series of his plans for the transformation of the Franciscan convent in Buda (dissolved in 1786) into an official building of the Supreme Court and the Archives of Hungary are now found in the collection of the Albertina in Vienna. In 1787 two versions of the plans were made: the first for the transformation of the existing building, and the second for a new structure. In the spirit of the rather severe and economical official building under Emperor Joseph II, the first version was realized.
