A rövid, nem kódoló RNS-szakaszokhoz kapcsolódó és RNS-interferencián (RNSi) alapuló daganatkutatás területén az elmúlt évtizedben robbanásszerű fejlődés tapasztalható. A mikro-RNS-ek molekuláris technológiai alkalmazhatósága egyre szélesebb spektrumot ölel fel a tumorpredikció, -diagnosztika, -utánkövetés és prevenció vonatkozásaiban. A szöveti miRNS-ek és a szérumban keringő szabad miRNS-ek poszttranszkripciós és transzlációs szabályozásban betöltött szerepe az egyik legaktívabban kutatott tudományterület, amely kapcsán számos, a daganatsejtek viselkedésével kapcsolatos eddigi nézeteinket teljesen átformáló eredmény született.
