Az emlőduktoszkópia modern, minimálisan invazív eljárás, amely lehetővé teszi a ductalis rendszer direkt, in vivo megfigyelését, elsősorban váladékozó emlőnél. A gyorsan fejlődő technika alkalmas a ductalis epithelium célzott mintavételére citológiai, valamint molekuláris vizsgálatok céljára. Egyes intraluminalis laesióknál a „high-tech” eszközök már a polypectomiát vagy a lézeres vaporizációt is lehetővé teszik, illetve fontos szerepet játszanak a ductus vagy az úgynevezett terminális ductolobularis egység irányított sebészi kimetszésében. A felsoroltak elősegíthetik a malignomák korai, még a képalkotó megjelenés előtti diagnózisát, illetve a nagy rizikójú betegcsoport kontrollját. Ductalis in situ tumoroknál a duktoszkópia anatómiai egységű sebészi eltávolítást és ezzel emlőmegtartó műtéteknél a radikalitás optimalizálását segítheti.
