A tüdő- és emlődaganatok áttétet képezhetnek az agyhártyán. A leptomeningealis carcinomatosis a daganatsejtes gócok elhelyezkedésétől függően szinte bármilyen központi idegrendszeri tünet formájában megmutatkozhat. A diagnózis a cerebrospinalis folyadék citológiai vizsgálata során észlelhető daganatsejtek kimutatásán alapul. A meningitis carcinomatosa prognózisa kezelés nélkül mindössze néhány hétre vagy hónapra korlátozódik. Amennyiben a meningitis carcinomatosa emlődaganat szövődményeként alakul ki, intrathecalis methotrexat-kemoterápiával a túlélés és az életminőség az esetek mintegy felében jelentősen javítható. Orv.
