Az utóbbi évek kutatási eredményei alapján az indukált köpet vizsgálata a légúti gyulladás egyik noninvazív vizsgálómódszerévé vált az obstruktív tüdőbetegségekben. A köpetindukció biztonságos, a betegek által jól tolerált beavatkozás. A módszer metodikai standardizálása jelentősen növelte a köpetminták minőségét és a vizsgálatok reprodukálhatóságát. Klinikai szempontból a köpeteosinophilia kimutatásának van a legnagyobb jelentősége, mivel ez a betegek nagyobb szteroidérzékenységére utal. A köpet eozinofilsejt-számát is figyelembe vevő kezelési stratégia az asztmásokban az exacerbatiós ráta csökkenését eredményezi. A köpetfelülúszóban kimutatható gyulladásos mediátorok az asztma és a krónikus obstruktív tüdőbetegség patogenezisének pontosabb megismerését segítik elő. A spontán köpet sejtprofiljának meghatározása is értékes információt szolgáltat a gyulladásos folyamatokról a légutakban. A klinikai tanulmányok eredményei alapján a jövőben a köpet vizsgálata a klinikai gyakorlatban is elterjedhet. Orv. Hetil., 2012, 153, 1847–1854.
