Importance of secondary conditions in rehabilitation medicine

A szerző „A funkcióképesség, fogyatékosság és egészség nemzetközi osztályozása (FNO)” alapján értelmezi a fogyatékosságot. Alkalmazott módszere az utóbbi két évtizedben folyamatosan növekvő szakirodalom célzott, korlátozott terjedelmű áttekintése. A másodlagos állapotokat a fenti osztályozási rendszer alapján definiálja és értelmezi. Kiemeli, hogy a szekunder állapotok gyakran az akut ellátás során keletkeznek, általában rehabilitációt tesznek szükségessé. A másodlagos állapotok jelentőségét a rehabilitációban a traumás gerincvelő-sérülés, stroke, alsóvégtag-amputáció és az intellektuális fogyatékosságok kiválasztott példáin keresztül mutatja be. Következtetésként megállapítja a jelenleg rendelkezésre álló ismeretek elégtelenségét, valamint javaslatot tesz arra, hogy a jövőbeni kutatások a funkcióképesség, fogyatékosság és egészség nemzetközi osztályozására alapozva történjenek.
