Abstract  

The distribution of mass in the spontaneous fission of252Cf has been investigated by the radiochemical determination of the absolute fission yields for 35 mass chains. A summation of the mass-yield curve gives a summed value of 199.4% which is in very good agreement with the value of 200% in fission. The mean masses of the light and heavy group are located at 106.39 and 141.82, respectively. The average number

of neutron per fisson is 3.79±0.12. The peak-to-valley ratio is larger than 370. The width at one tenth of the maximum of the light and heavy group are 26.7 and 26.8 mass number, respectively. A comparison of previous investigators has resulted in recommended yields for 35 mass chains.

Abstract

Liquid organic peroxides (LOPs) have been widely used as initiators of polymerization, hardening, or cross-linking agents. We evaluated a beneficial kinetic model to acquire accurate thermokinetic parameters to help preventing runaway reactions, fires or explosions in the process environment. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to assess the kinetic parameters, such as kinetic model, reaction order, heat of reaction (ΔH d), activation energy (E a), frequency factor (lnk 0), etc. The non-isothermal and isothermal kinetic models were compared to determine the validity of the kinetic model, and then applied to the thermal hazard assessment of commercial package contaminated with LOPs. Simulations of a 0.5-L Dewar vessel and 25-kg commercial package were performed. We focused on the thermal stability of different liquid system properties for LOPs. From the results, the optimal conditions were determined for avoiding violent heat effects that can cause a runaway reaction in storage, transportation, and manufacturing.

Introduction

This study evaluates the association between generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and the role of behavior inhibition in young adults.

Methods

We recruited 87 people with IGD and a control group of 87 people without a history of IGD. All participants underwent a diagnostic interview based on the fifth edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, IGD and GAD criteria, and completed a questionnaire on behavior inhibition, depression, and anxiety.

Results

Logistic regression revealed that adults with GAD were more likely (odds ratio = 8.11, 95% CI = 1.78−37.09) to have IGD than those without it. The OR decreased when controlling for behavior inhibition. IGD subjects with GAD had higher depressive and anxiety score than those without GAD.

Conclusions

GAD was associated with IGD. Comorbid GAD can contribute to higher emotional difficulty. GAD should be well-assessed and interventions planned when treating young adults with IGD. Behavioral inhibition confounds the association between GAD and IGD. Further study is necessary to evaluate how to intervene in behavioral inhibitions to attenuate the risk of GAD and IGD comorbidity.

Abstract  

DTPA-Octreotide(Pentetreotide), a somatostatin analogue which can bind specifically and with high affinity to somatostatin receptor in vitro and vivo, labeled with99mTc by tin reduction in acetate buffer, has been characterized by Reverse-phase High performance Liquid Chromatography. The effect of different solvents, mobile phase pH, linear gradient and the injected volume on the separation efficiency was evaluated. The results show that the separation efficiency is best using μBondapak-C18 (300×3.9 mm2), linear gradient of 40% to 80% methanol (1.0 ml/min) in 0.05M acetate buffer (pH 5.5) over a 30 min period and maintaining for another 10 min. The labeled product is a mixture which mainly consists of five components (a, b, c, d, e) successfully proved by HPLC. Paper chromatography is also evaluated in this paper. It may be used to determine the radiochemical purity of the labeling product, but is not a good choice for the verification each components.

This study was performed under the joint TRMC/INER program for the determination of low level85Kr and133Xe concentrations in the environmental air samples. Based on cryogenic adsorption of krypton and xenon on charcoal followed by chromatographic separation from other gases, the85Kr and133Xe recovered from 200 liters of atmospheric air can be determined by either on-line gas flow proportional counter or liquid scintillation counting. The recovery yields of krypton and xenon examined by using85Kr and133Xe tracers were nearly 100%. The minimum detectable activity of85Kr and133Xe by gas flow proportional counting is about 7.40 Bq. The method is satisfactory for environmental monitoring applications under abnormal conditions of nuclear facilities. However, for lower level environmental85Kr and133Xe measurements, the liquid scintillation counting method can be applied due to their extremely low detection limits (i.e. 0.107 Bq and 0.093 Bq for85Kr and133Xe, respectively). Using this method, the measurable limits of concentrations are 0.535 Bq/m3 and 0.466 Bq/m3 for85Kr and133Xe, respectively.

Abstract  

A low cost spectrum multiscaling analyzer system based on an IBM PC is described. Interrupt service routines were used to handle both the digital data converted by ADC and record the dead time profile. A dead time counter was provided to handle the dead time problem by counting the busy time of amplifier and ADC, which is important in correcting the decay rate of the short-lived nuclides during the counting interval.

Abstract  

A previously developed internal radiation therapy mode adopting a thermo-sensitive, chitosan-based hydrogel intended for local delivery of 188Re–Tin colloid drug was extended to test for its applicability to the treatment of hepatoma in rats. The effects of two formulations of hydrogel with different gel times and two methods of delivering the hydrogel containing 188Re–Tin colloid into tumors on the accumulated dose and duration of radioactivity within tumor were first studied by in vitro release, planar scintigraphy, and bio-distribution evaluations. Results from this initial study suggest that a treatment mode using the intratumoral delivery method and a 4 min gel time hydrogel to deliver the 188Re–Tin colloid into the tumor is more effective for treating hepatoma in rats. The treatment mode was then further verified through efficacy evaluations based on hepatic tumor growth in hepatoma-bearing rats. In conclusion, the application of chitosan/β-glycero-phosphate (C/GP) hydrogel for the local delivery of 188Re–Tin colloid to treat hepatoma in rats is feasible. The effective and efficient treatment mode consists of the intratumoral injection of 188Re–Tin colloid premixed with 4 min gel time C/GP hydrogel.

Abstract  

A low cost and simple configuration of multifunctional MCA based on a personal computer is described. It can be used as a spectrum multiscaling analyzer, multi-input pulse height analyzer and dual parameter MCA. It can also be used in a master-slave ADC configuration in order to cut down the dead time of the system. All the functions can be performed by loading the corresponding programs without altering the hardware configuration. Interrupt service routines are used to handle the digital data converted by ADC. A dead time counter is also provided to record the dead time profile by measuring the ADC busy time.

The common wheat line, YW243, developed in our research group, was tested for the resistances of barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV), powdery mildew (Pm) and stripe rust in field, and was analyzed by molecular markers for convenient trace of the resistant genes in breeding. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) analysis and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) assay further demonstrated that YW243 was a homozygous multiple translocation line of Triticum aestivum, Thinopyrum intermedium and Secale cereale (T7DS·7DL-7XL & 1BL·1RS). The disease resistance test and marker analysis showed that YW243 carried seven resistance genes to the three diseases, including Bdv2 to BYDV on 7DL-7XL, Pm4 to powdery mildew on 2AL, Yr2, Yr9, Sr 31 and Lr26 and a new Yr to stripe rust on 7B, 1BL, 1RS and 2BL. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers Xpsr687 and Xwg380 , sequence tagged site (STS) marker STS 1700 , simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers Xgwmc364 and Xgwm582 , SSR markers Xgwm388 and Xgwm501 can be used as diagnostic tools to track Bdv2, Pm4, Yr2, Yr9 and Yr in YW243 , respectively; and two amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers M54E63 - 700 and M54E64 - 699 can also be used to select Yr in YW243 .

Abstract  

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have remarkable properties. However, their thermal stability characteristics, which may represent potential hazards during the production or utilization stage, concern unsafe or unknown properties researches. Our aim was to analyze the thermokinetic parameters of different heating rates by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TG), and then to compare thermal decomposition energy parameters under various conditions by well-known kinetic equations. MWCNTs were acidified via nitric acid (HNO3) in various concentrations from 3 to 15 N and were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. For original and modified MWCNTs, we further identified the thermal degradation characteristics of the functional group by TG-FTIR. Finally, we established an effective and prompt procedure for receiving information on thermal decomposition characteristics and reaction hazard of MWCNTs that could be applied as an inherently safer design during normal or upset operation.
