Abstract  

Atmospheric radon concentration was continuously monitored in Bucharest-Magurele area both near the ground at 1 m height as well as at 10 m height. This paper presents the results of radon in air near the ground concentrations obtained during the 1 July 2010 to 1 February 2012 period by use of solid state nuclear track detectors SSNTD CR-39. The mean atmospheric radon concentration near the ground at 1 m height was found to be 360.91 ± 66.49 Bq/m3, which was about more than an order of magnitude lower than average radon concentration in range of 44.92 ± 9.94 Bq/m3 recorded for period 1 August 2011 to 20 December 2011 at 10 m height by AlphaGUARD Radon monitor. The meteorological effects on the variation of atmospheric radon concentration were discussed. The analysis of spatio-temporal variations in time series radon concentration in air near the ground is a useful tool to study geo-dynamical processes associated with seismic activity in active Vrancea zone in Romania. Taking off the variations induced by external variables, such as temperature, barometric pressure, rainfall, and other meteorological parameters, can be assessed radon anomalies due to possible tectonic movements and also can be surveyed radioactivity background in relation with nuclear emergencies.

Abstract  

Various samples from the south-east region of Roumania/greens, fodder, cheese/were analyzed for131I,134Cs and137Cs concentrations in May and July 1986 by -ray spectrometry. The concentrations are reported in nCi. kg–1 wet weight. For greens, a considerable decrease was observed for131I/to 3.0–7.0 nCi. kg–1/,134Cs/to 0.5–2.0 nCi.kg–1/ and137Cs /to 1.0–4.0 nCi. kg–1/ from the first half /5–15 May/ till the end of May 1986. For cheese, maximum values were measured between 5 and 15 May /sheep cottage cheese: 500–800 nCi.kg–1 for131I, 25–50 nCi. kg–1 for134Cs, 40–80 nCi. kg–1 for137Cs/; at the beginning of July a considerable decrease /to 5–10 nCi. kg–1 for131I, 1.2–2.0 nCi.kg–1 for134Cs, 2.2–3.0 nCi. kg–1 for137Cs/ was observed. In autumn 1986 a small increase up to 2.0–3.0 nCi. kg–1 for134Cs and 3.4–5.0 nCi. kg–1 for137Cs /in November/ was reported. The population's internal possible contamination was strongly limited by the authorities' severe control of the food-stuff.

This paper presents the main actions concerning the occurrence and dissemination of the adult Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte species, and the results obtained in the third year of the FAO project TCP/RER/6712(A) “Development and Implementation of Containment of the Western Corn Rootworm in Europe”. A comparative analysis of the monitoring results in 1997 and 1998 is also included.

The Romanian Seismic Network consisting of 8 short-period stations (S13), 60 Altus — K2 and Q330 seismic stations, is primarily designed to survey the Vrancea seismic region (strong and moderate Vrancea earthquakes). Since July 2002, a new seismic monitoring system, Bucovina Seismic Array (BURAR) has been operating. BURAR consists of 12 seismic stations distributed on a 5 km × 5 km area. 9 stations are equipped with short-period (SP) vertical sensors (GS-21 res) and one station is equipped with broad-band (BB) three component sensor (KS 54000). Broad-band sensors GMG40T (1000V/cm/s) were installed at 5 of the short-period stations, at the beginning of 2008. Recently, NIEP has developed its real-time digital seismic network. This network consists of 21 broad band stations and one seismic array. In the next year NIEP will install additional broad band stations in the central part of Romanian territory and other 40 strong motions stations in Bucharest.At the National Data Centre (NDC) runs BRTT’s Antelope™ 4.9 data acquisition and processing software on two HP workstations for real-time and post processing. The Antelope Real-Time System is also providing automatic event detection, arrival picking, event location and magnitude calculation.The Romanian Seismic Network is already linked with IRIS and ORFEUS organizations and other European countries via Internet and is contributing in near real time with waveform data from 5 broadband stations.The seismotectonic characteristics of the Vrancea region offer the opportunity to create and develop a rapid seismic warning system. This system allows warning in an approximately 25 seconds time window for Bucharest.

In this paper, I will argue that the asyllabic /i/—a recurrent inflectional element in final position in Romanian words—is not a phoneme of the Romanian vowel system. I will present arguments which sustain that the morphological marker- i leads to the palatalization of the preceding consonant, resulting in a positional allophone of the consonant phoneme in complementary distribution with it.
