development of the Slavic verbal aspect as a whole, apply to the development of the Polish verbal aspect, too. 1 In Modern Polish, like in other Slavic languages, prefixation as pisać ‘to write’ → na pisać ‘to write down’ (perfectivation) and
In this study, the author provides a survey on a lexical aspect of Old French, namely the liberty of derivation with the prefixes entre-, mal- and mes-. The study presents the semantic components of these prefixes as well as a related morphological analysis. At the end of the paper, the author offers a possible explanation for the frequency of these prefixed forms.
This paper investigates the grammaticalization of words into prefixes, via the intermediate stage of separable particles. Particle-verb combinations are analysed as constructional idioms, whereas prefixed verbs are analysed as words. We hypothesize that semantic change triggers the structural change of particles becoming inseparable prefixes. In this way, syntax reflects semantics: the loss of independent semantic content, accompanied by other specific semantic developments, triggers the loss of syntactic independence. Data from Middle and Modern Dutch are discussed to illustrate the validity of the hypothesis and to show that semantic changes indeed precede syntactic changes in the development of particles into prefixes.
are posited in a line in my own work Embick (2004 , 2009 , 2016) ; they also play an important role in Marantz's (2009) analysis of the English re- prefix. The implications of a specific type of small analysis are worked out in the most detail by

The author analyzes biaspectual verbs with borrowed roots which have prefixed perfective or suffixed imperfective correlates. The analysis focuses on the change (the weakening or loss) of biaspectual semantics of these verbs.
This paper suggests a new interpretation for verse 523 in Sophocles' Antigone. The prefix συν- in the verbs συνέχθειν and συμφιλεῖν has generally been translated as meaning "with" or "together". The author attempts to prove that the meaning of the prefix in this verse is the completion of an action and suggests the following translation: "I was not born to hate completely, but to love fully." This translation fits nicely into the contexts of Antigone's dialogue with Creon, as well as into the context of the entire drama as a whole.
The second part of the paper cites various passages in which the prefix συν- is used for indicating the completion of an action; the examples include a passage from Sophocles' Ajax that is strikingly similar to verse 523 οf Antigone.
Abstract
A new method for gold determination in ore is presented. By the method called PREFIX (preconcentration and X-ray fluorescence), it is possible to detect trace concentrations of gold down to the level of 0.2 g/g, without any device.
Abstract
A number of advantages of nanostructured materials over bulk materials and their potential applications in many scientific and technological fields have been revealed in recent years. To find out the main growth and trends of this exciting new scienence and technology fields the growth rate of the nano-prefixed terms in the title of journal papers has been measured. It has been shown that the investigations dealing with graphite nanotubes represent kinetically the most active field of research in the nanosciences.
For any completely simple semigroup C a regular expansion S(C) is constructed which is the Birget-Rhodes prefix expansion C Pr if C is a group [6]. We show that our construction generalizes two important features of C Pr. Moreover we embed S (C) into a restricted semidirect product of a semilattice by C and investigate the relationship to the expansion P(C), introduced by Meakin [14].
