Abstract  

A system made up by a Zymark robot and a separation automate preteats spent fuel samples and monitors a tri-n-octylphosphine oxide column extraction chromatographic procedure in order to isolate and purify uranium and plutonium present in the samples, prior to the spectrometric measurements. Up to 16 subsamples of spent fuel in dried or solution form are handled simultaneously in a completely unattended mode. The throughput of the robotized analytical procedure has increased by a factor of 3 compared to the earlier manual procedure without loss in the quality of the chemical treatment and of the mass- and -spectrometric measurements.

Abstract  

Patents contain much significant technical information which can serve as an indicator of technological and economical development. This study attempts to forecast the development of the biped robot walking technique in Japan by use of the patent data obtained from the Japan Patent Office. The study applies linear regression to the patent data using three S-curve models developed by Loglet Lab, Pearl, and Gompertz individually. Various parameters inherent to each model including the least sum of modulus error and the least mean of square error of the model are analyzed. The most appropriate model for measuring the inflection point, the growth and the saturation time of the technique is described. Based on the Gompertz model analysis, this study finds that the biped robot walking technique will continue to develop for several decades in Japan and the saturation period is estimated to be around the year 2079–2082. This finding can help related researchers and managers in the robot field to foresee the development trend of the biped robot walking technique in this century.

Abstract  

In this paper, we show a “Strategic Diagram” of the robot technology by applying the co-word analysis to the metadata of Korean related national R&D projects in 2001. The strategic diagram shows the evolutionary trends of the specific R&D domain and relational patterns between subdomains. We may use this strategic diagram to support both the strategic planning and the R&D Program.

Abstract  

A series of changes and updatings to the [18F]FDG setup of the Anatech RB-86 robotic system are described. They include improved [18O]H2O recovery, “one-pot” reaction, elimination of the SPE step and base-assisted hydrolysis. Considerations on this last point are also reported. Thus, a remarkable improvement in the radiochemical yield, which is now 81% (decay corrected to SOS) with a synthesis time of just 40 minutes, has been achieved. The influence of several different reaction vessel materials on the synthesis is also briefly examined.

Abstract  

A small, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with sensors for physical and chemical measurements of remote environments, is described. A miniature helicopter airframe is used as a platform for sensor testing and development. The sensor output is integrated with the flight control system for real-time, interactive, data acquisition and analysis. Pre-programmed flight missions will be flown with several sensors to demonstrate the cost-effective surveillance capabilities of this new technology.

Abstract

One of the most important manufacturing steps for efficient modules is the encapsulation of the control circuit and the design of the echelon height and convexity value between the casing and the circuit. The paper presents the current manufacturing technology and the development of tools and technology driven by the customers’ requirements. For this reason, a new gluing tool has been developed in the report including a pneumatic open-close machine and special use of plasma technology designed for decreasing the setting time of the glue. The development includes the design of the workplace, working requirements and the optimisation of the expenses. In the paper the results are reported with specific industrial experiences.
