family data as given, as a sort of black box, and do not go into the details of patent family building methodologies and underlying patent linkages. It is therefore the right moment to compare the different methodologies used to build the types of patent

Abstract

A method for determination of the composition of binary mixtures of a metal or radionuclide species by optimized repeated two-phase separations (SORTS) was proposed and theoretically substantiated. Its principle consists in repeated equilibration of two immiscible phases, one being the original liquid or solid matrix with minimal adjustment of its composition and varying the phase ratio (separation stage cut) as the optimized parameter. The batch separation technique may consist in the repeated solvent extraction or aqueous biphasic distribution, or in the replicate equilibration with solvent or leaching solution. Results of SORTS can be presented e.g. by Tukey box diagrams as the characteristic fingerprints of original species composition.

The Hayagrīvavidyā included in a Gilgit manuscript belongs to the earliest works invoking the god Hayagrīva. It is a spell which could be applied to achieve several aims. The god destroys the enemies, rescues from danger, his mantra protects against all sorts of evil, demons and black magic. His mare-face is believed to counteract the effects of enemy mantras.

A semantics for various classes of Czech numerals is presented which is based on Landman’s theory but also incorporates Chierchia’s Neo-Carlsonian approach to kinds. On the basis of a wide range of empirical data it is argued that Czech overtly lexicalizes at least two covert “sort-shifting” operators that have been stipulated in order to derive certain fine-grained semantic effects.

Abstract

Brief history and current status of activation analysis in Korea are described. About 120 papers have been published since the first paper was reported in 1960. They are sorted out into 5 consecutive periods according to the publication year, and typical feature of each period is described.

Abstract

Prehistoric stone tool knapping was an expert skill. This experiment was a cognitively demanding test of modern day knappers using an adaptation of the classic Chase and Simon paradigm from chess expertise (where chess experts/novices are briefly exposed to chess positions and later asked to recall the patterns). Here, pieces of flint debitage were used instead of chess pieces, and it was a recognition test rather than recall. Expertise was measured by social status and questionnaire. Three participant groups were tested (archaeology professionals, students, and nonexperts) in 15 trials each, each comprising four tasks: (1) sorting task, (2) exposure, (3) sorting task, and (4) recognition task. The sorting task (interference) required participants to sort flint debitage by size into different buckets. In the exposure task, the experimenter showed the participant three types of rock (flakes, miscellaneous rocks, cores) seriatim for 2 seconds each. The recognition task required that the participant attempt to identify previously seen rocks on three tables (flakes, miscellaneous, and cores tables). Experts performed significantly better than students and non-experts. Post-session interviews revealed a diversity of strategies, suggesting that increased expertise enhanced perception. This result parallels chess expert studies, and template theory in chess might apply to knappers.

Pesticides are used with the aim to control insects, diseases, fungi and other pests.  Along with the benefits, there are potential effects from trace amounts of residues remaining on fruits and vegetables. The objective of this study was to check for compliance with the maximum residue levels in fruits and vegetables from Kvarner region of Croatia. 14 Fourteen sorts of  vegetables and 6 sorts of fruits (n = 263), randomly selected from market,  were analysed for organochlorine, organophosphorus and fungicide residues. Multi residue analysis using GC/NPD, GC/ECD  and spectrophotometric methods were performedapplied. The results of this study indicated that though all the commodities were contaminated with pesticides, the levels were low and residues above MRL were found only in 1.52% of  samples. All other levels were below the criteria for maximum residue limits established by Croatia and the EU.

Thematic units in the metric fragments of the Presocratics: 1. A Presocratic poem have been composed as a set of thematic units. We can state the opening and the end of these units. 2. The thematic units content good identifiable structural elements. 3. Each unit has its very philosophical meaning and intention, therefore they are good analysable. In the antithetical reasoning the philosopher opposes the true knowledge to the opinion of ordinary men. It is an interesting feature of this sort of reasoning that the content of the ordinary opinion is expressed in a detailed form of a catalogue, the true knowledge on the other hand is formulated with gnomic conciseness. The quasi-geometrical proof is an argument in three steps: (a) exposition of the demonstrandum, (b) demonstration, (c) conclusion. This sort of proof shows a kinship with the structure of the Euclidean demonstration: protasis, apodeixis, sumperasma.
