Summary

Publication and citation profiles of Full and Associate Professors at the School of Chemistry of the Universidad de la Repblica in Uruguay were investigated. The groups do not exhibit markedly different age averages. However, the average time since they started publishing, as well as other characteristics of their publication records, like productivity or citations, set them apart. From the point of view of both the number of papers per author and per year of activity, on one side, and of the number of citations per year of activity, on the other, the group of Full Professors has statistically significant larger averages than the Associate Professors. The impact of self-citations, multi-authorship and internationalization of the publications were analyzed within the two groups and shown to have no excessive or predictable influence on those parameters, except in the case of few (≤ 2) or many (>8) authors. It is suggested in this paper that these two indicators, number of papers per author per production year and number of citations per production year, combined in a plot allowing a bidimensional ranking of the individuals in the groups, may be used profitably as one of the components in the development of a policy toward promotion of Associate Professors. The analysis showed also that the quotient of citations received to number of papers published, even when derived from actual citation data of the scientists without involving the impact factors of the journals in which they publish, are not good parameters to use for that purpose, essentially because there is a reduction in the information content of the indicator with respect to those described before.

In the economic growth process when China joined in WTO, internationalized operation has become an inevitable issue. Under the new normal economic condition, including the cut offtariffs on imported goods, businesses in China have realized the importance of enhancing the overall brand image, quality of products and services, and the international compatibility. Businesses of China need to develop creative and high-value-added products, and shall be able to rapidly change to satisfy market requirements to distinguish themselves from other products. It is the way of creating a new pattern of upgrading. It is the market-orientated development that is a primary condition for enterprises to adapt to the rapidly changing environment, keeping growth and attracting customers, acquiring competitive advantages, and creating excellent value for customers. It reveals the fact that in the future, businesses must change the focus from product to market needs. It is the marketorientation which could generate the competitive strength to resist competitors.

The research involves in total 45 international enterprises, which are distributed with the questionnaires. There are totally 124 and 107 copies of questionnaires retrieved from manufacturing industry and service industry, with valid retrieval rates of 54% and 46%, respectively. The research results show that: 1. there is positive effect of market orientation on breakthrough innovation, 2. there is positive effect of breakthrough innovation on organizational performance, and 3. there is positive effect of market orientation on organizational performance. Based upon the results, some suggestions are proposed in this study, expecting to help international enterprises develop market orientation, enhance breakthrough innovation, and improve organizational performance.

Summary

Terminology science and terminology work suffer from the relative lack of recognition of their importance, the relative sparseness of high-quality terminological resources, the labour-intensiveness (and therefore costliness) of preparing terminological data using conventional approaches, the lack of esteem for terminology work by domain experts, etc. Terminology in the sense of a representation of a set of closely related concepts is often considered to be an uninspiring subject. On the other hand, industry and research in content and knowledge management is gradually recognizing the importance of terminological methods and data. For industry, terminology – often called ontology – is important in conjunction with globalization, internationalization and localization, where it is crucial for communication (e.g. in trade, marketing, etc.), product data management, technical documentation, translation, and localization, not to say strategies in enterprise content management. Therefore, R&D increasingly concentrates on ontology studies and interoperability – aiming at true semantic interoperability in the sense of conceptual and pragmatic interoperability of structured content, which lately came to be called content interoperability, in order to differentiate it from the semantic interoperability of computer science and software engineering.

Orv. Hetil., 2012, 153, 1711–1718.
