Abstract  

A Microbot Alpha robot has been interfaced to a Nuclear Data Model 680 multichannel analyzer (MCA) and computer to allow unattended accumulation and storage of gamma-ray spectra. Software was written in DEC RT-11 system language to control the robot, MCA and dual floppy disk system from a DEC LSI-11 microcomputer. Typically, 8 spectra are accomulated for 3 hours each, providing 24 hours of unattended operation for one detector or 12 hours for two detectors. The system has proven to be highly reliable and has eliminated the need for operator intervention after working hours.

Abstract  

An automatic gamma-ray spectrometer equipped with a micro-robot for sample changing has been developed and constructed. The facility is comprised of a commercially available micro-robot, sample changer for up to 36 samples, personal computer programmed in BASIC language, input/output devices, detector and multichannel analyzer. This paper describes the components, software and effective uses of the above facility.

Abstract  

A system made up by a Zymark robot and a separation automate preteats spent fuel samples and monitors a tri-n-octylphosphine oxide column extraction chromatographic procedure in order to isolate and purify uranium and plutonium present in the samples, prior to the spectrometric measurements. Up to 16 subsamples of spent fuel in dried or solution form are handled simultaneously in a completely unattended mode. The throughput of the robotized analytical procedure has increased by a factor of 3 compared to the earlier manual procedure without loss in the quality of the chemical treatment and of the mass- and -spectrometric measurements.

Abstract  

A series of changes and updatings to the [18F]FDG setup of the Anatech RB-86 robotic system are described. They include improved [18O]H2O recovery, “one-pot” reaction, elimination of the SPE step and base-assisted hydrolysis. Considerations on this last point are also reported. Thus, a remarkable improvement in the radiochemical yield, which is now 81% (decay corrected to SOS) with a synthesis time of just 40 minutes, has been achieved. The influence of several different reaction vessel materials on the synthesis is also briefly examined.

Abstract  

A small, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with sensors for physical and chemical measurements of remote environments, is described. A miniature helicopter airframe is used as a platform for sensor testing and development. The sensor output is integrated with the flight control system for real-time, interactive, data acquisition and analysis. Pre-programmed flight missions will be flown with several sensors to demonstrate the cost-effective surveillance capabilities of this new technology.

A thermogravimetric unit is described having horizontal furnace arrangement, a temperature range of up to 1100°C and unsurpassed dynamic weighing range from 0 to 2 g at 0.1 μg resolution. Options of the system are sample robot, gas controller, high temperature furnace and hyphenated EGA techniques.
