Abstract

Varroa mite, Varroa destructor is the most important ectoparasite of the honey bee, Apis mellifera worldwide, contributing to colony collapse. The development of alternative non-toxic methods against this pest is needed, as most of the wide-used acaricides in apiculture are banned in the European Union, which increase the risk of developing resistant mite populations against the remaining few products. In order to reveal biological basis of a new, semiochemical-based method, the aim of this study was to search for olfactory stimuli, used by female Varroa mites in orienting to drone brood for egglaying. Volatiles of uncapped drone brood were collected in situ, inside bee-hives, using either charcoal, or HayeSep® Q filters. Collections were analyzed by gas chromatograph linked to an electrotarsogram detector (GC-ETD), using the foreleg of female mite. Results showed that most components were present in collections trapped by any of these filters. However, some components appreared only in charcoal-, while others only in HayeSep® collections, respectively. Out of the large number of components, a few elicited electrophysiological responses. Structure elucidation of these active components are underways. Futher behavioral studies should reveal, which components play role in attraction of Varroa mites.

Abstract

The paper presents the interpretation and explanation of the findings of two pieces of experimental research within the framework of Varga's (2016) pitch-tier model of the Hungarian declarative sentence. One of the experiments was established to investigate the information-structural contribution of quantified expressions (such as mindhárom barátom ‘all three of my friends’ and Csaba is ‘Csaba also’). The other experiment explored the acoustic features of the spontaneous-speech specific discourse marker hát ‘well/so’. The two topics can be regarded as interconnected if Varga's model is interpreted in the strong sense that pitch – presumably in a more or less strong correlation with intensity – is responsible for indicating the topic–comment dichotomy and other factors of the discourse-embedding of sentences. Thus, the reconciliation of our data with Varga's model requires the consideration of the pitch-tier substructures in their complex dynamism. The experiments support the plausible hypothesis that the variants of the discourse marker hát as part of the preparatory contour primarily differ in duration, while is-quantifiers in different pitch-tier parts differ in terms of pitch values.

A kritikus állapotú betegek stressz-hyperglykaemiájának értékelése az elmúlt évtizedben jelentősen megváltozott. A vércukor szoros kontrolljának mortalitást csökkentő hatását igazolta több jelentős vizsgálat, ugyanakkor az ezt célzó inzulinkezelés megnöveli a hypoglykaemia kockázatát, amely független mortalitási tényező lehet. A hypoglykaemia szempontjából kiemelt jelentőségű a gyermekpopuláció, a fejlődő idegrendszer miatt. Ezek alapján joggal merül fel a vércukorváltozások intenzív osztályos monitorizálásának igénye, különösen gyermek betegeknél. A hagyományos, vérmintából történő vércukor-meghatározások nem tesznek lehetővé kellően szoros monitorizálást. A cukorbetegek számára kifejlesztett, a szövet közti glükóz meghatározásán alapuló módszerek (continuous glucose monitoring) jó alternatívát jelenthetnek az intenzív osztályos monitorizálásra, amennyiben felmérjük a rendszer korlátait. A mérés a szövet közti folyadékban történik, így a szöveti perfúzió változásai zavarhatják a pontosságát. A folyamatos glükózmonitoring módszer intenzív osztályos alkalmazását jelenleg még nem javasolják, amíg a rendszer megbízhatóságáról nem áll rendelkezésre elegendő adat. Összefoglaló közleményükben a szerzők a magyar klinikai gyakorlatban elterjedt Medtronic folyamatos szubkután glükózmonitorizáló rendszert értékelik, részben saját eredményeik alapján. Orv. Background and aims

Conspecific individual recognition using vocal cues has been shown in a wide range of species but there is no published evidence that dogs are able to recognize their owner based on his/her voice alone (interspecific individual recognition).

Methods

In our test, dogs had to rely on vocal cues to find their hidden owner in a two-way choice task. From behind an opaque screen, both the owner and a control person uttered neutral speech (reading sentences from a receipt) before the dogs were allowed to make their choice. Correct choices were reinforced by food and by verbal praise.

Results

During the six-choice trials, dogs chose their owner’s voice significantly more often than the control person’s voice. There was no effect of learning throughout the trials, and dogs did not show side preference.

Discussion

Thus, dogs are able to discriminate interspecific voices, suggesting that they are able to identify their owner based on vocal cues alone. This experimental design allows exploration of the role of individual acoustic parameters (such as fundamental frequency) in voice discrimination.

Abstract

Excessive consumption of salt causes many diseases, including high blood pressure and cardiovascular system disease. In most countries, salt intake is above the WHO guideline daily intake. In Hungary, the average salt intake is more than double the recommended value. Based on these, significant changes are needed in food technology and recipes. To avoid excessive salt intake Hungary has joined the European Union's community program for salt reduction.

The aim of this study was to compare the salt content in different areas of Mangalitsa ham during the dry salting, and compare the average salt content with the regulations of the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus. The ham was dry salted with 10% by weight of the meat and placed in a controlled atmosphere storage room. The curing took 21 days. The NaCl uptake was measured with Mohr method. The ham was cut at 3 points Cushion (C), Fore Cushion (FC) and Butt End (BE). The salt content of BE was generally higher than the other two areas (C, FC). The differences can be explained by the difference in the thickness of the pieces of meat and fat. The average salt content of the different areas did not exceed the threshold limit in the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus. At the beginning of the experiment, the salt content of each meat layer was very different, the absorbed salt was concentrated in the surface layer. Over time, as the ham lost a lot of water and due to the lack of outer salt, a significant increase in salt content began in the meat centrum. By day 80, the salt content of the meat centrum exceeded the salt content of both the fat and the surface layer.

Abstract

This review aims to summarise new approaches in SARS-CoV-2-related research in cardiology. We provide a head-to-head comparison of models, such as animal research and human pluripotent stem cells, to investigate the pathomechanisms of COVID-19 and find an efficient therapy. In vivo methods were useful for studying systemic processes of the disease; however, due to differences in animal and human biology, the clinical translation of the results remains a complex task. In vitro stem cell research makes cellular events more observable and effective for finding new drugs and therapies for COVID-19, including the use of stem cells. Furthermore, multicellular 3D organoids even make it possible to observe the effects of drugs to treat SARS-CoV-2 infection in human organ models.

This study investigates the metabolic effects of maize- or wheat-based diets with normal (NP) and lowered (LP) dietary crude protein level [the latter supplemented with limiting amino acids and sodium (n-)butyrate at 1.5 g/kg diet] at different phases of broiler fattening. Blood samples of Ross 308 broilers were tested at the age of 1, 3 and 6 weeks. Total protein (TP) concentration increased in wheat-based and decreased in LP groups in week 3, while butyrate reduced albumin/TP ratio in week 1. Uric acid level was elevated by wheat-based diet in week 1 and by wheat-based diet and butyrate in week 3, but decreased in LP groups in weeks 3 and 6. Aspartate aminotransferase activity was increased by wheat-based diet in week 3, and creatine kinase activity was intensified by LP in weeks 3 and 6. Blood glucose level decreased in wheat-based groups in week 3; however, triglyceride concentration was augmented in the same groups in week 3. No change of glucagon-like peptide 1, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and insulin concentration was observed. In conclusion, an age-dependent responsiveness of broilers to dietary factors was found, dietary cereal type was a potent modulator of metabolism, and a low crude protein diet supplemented with limiting amino acids might have a beneficial impact on the growth of chickens.

Absztrakt:

Bevezetés: A Gardner-syndroma a Familiaris Adenomatosus Polyposis klinikai altípusa, egy igen ritka autoszomálisan öröklődő betegség, amelyet a gastrointestinalis traktus polyposisa, valamint extraintestinalis elváltozásként multiplex osteomák, bőr- és lágyrésztumorok jellemeznek.

A szerzők egy férfi betegük kapcsán áttekintik a Gardner-syndroma diagnosztikáját, kezelését, gondozását, valamint felhívják a figyelmet arra, hogy a ritka betegségcsoportok ismerete az ellátás mindegyik szintjén fontos – kiváltképp a nagy forgalmú osztályokon történő korrekt betegellátás szempontjából.

Colorectalis adenocarcinoma implantációs áttéte végbélsipolyban

Implantation metastasis of colorectal adenocarcinoma in an anal fistula

Esetbemutatásunkban a colorectalis adenocarcinoma áttétképzésének egy ritka formáját, tumorsejtek intraluminalis szóródása és implantációja révén kialakuló metasztázisát ismertetjük. 43 éves férfi betegünk anamnézisében periproctalis tályog miatt más intézetben feltárás, majd a tályog helyén kialakult analis sipoly miatt fistulotomia szerepelt. Néhány hónappal később a műtéti területen vérzékeny szövetszaporulat jelent meg, a szövettan adenocarcinomát igazolt. Az elvégzett kolonoszkópia során a colon sigmoideum területén szűkítő szövetszaporulatot találtak. Laparoszkópos rectosigmoidealis reszekciót és per anum tumorexcisiót végeztünk. A részletes szövettani feldolgozás az eltávolított bélszakaszban, illetve a per anum kimetszésben mucinosus adenocarcinomát igazolt. Esetünkben az analis sipoly helyén kialakult szinkrón tumor hátterében implantációs mechanizmus valószínűsíthető. Az ilyen implantációs metasztázis irodalmi ritkaságnak számít, csupán néhány eset közlése történt meg ez idáig a nemzetközi irodalomban. Magyarországról közölt hasonló esetről nincs tudomásunk.
