Abstract  

A radioactive multitracer solution obtained from the nuclear reaction of selenium with 25 MeV/nucleon40Ar ions was applied to the investigation of the trace elements behavior in feces and urine of mouse. The excretion rates of 23 elements, Na, K, Rb, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ga, As, Sc, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Fe, Zn, Y, Zr, Mo, Nb, Tc, Ru, Ag and In were simultaneously detected under strictly identical experimental conditions, in order to clarify the excretion behavior of the elements in mice. Fecal and urinary excretion rates of the elements in mice reached the highest value separately at 48 and 24 hours. The total excretion of Mo, Tc and Co within 96 hours were all larger, more than 60%. Accumulative excretion rates of Ca, Nb, Mg, Sr, V, Sc, Na, Cr, Fe, Ag, Mn and Zr were 60-30%. The total rates of Ru, K, As, Zn, Rb, Y, Ga and In were less than 30%, and low excretion. The main excretion pathway of Mo, Co, Mg, Fe and Ag was through urine, and Na, K, As and Rb were eliminated from the body also in urine. But fecal excretion of Tc, Nb, Sr, Y, Ru, and In were larger than urinary excretion, and Ca, Sc, Mn, Zr, Zn were eliminated from the body in feces.

Abstract

Laburnine's dissolution behaviors in glucose and saline solution were studied by a micro-calorimetry method. The measured integral and differential heats of solution were utilized to build equations of the solute and the heat, so that dissolution thermodynamic equations and half-time periods, Δsol H m, Δsol G m, and Δsol S m were obtained. The results show that this study does not only provide a simple method for the determination of the half-life period for a drug but also offer a theoretical reference for the clinical application of laburnine.

Abstract

In this article, the enthalpy of dissolution for oxymatrine in 0.15 M citric acid solution is measured using a RD496-2000 Calvet Microcalorimeter at 36.5 °C under atmospheric pressure. The differential enthalpy (Δ dif H m) and molar enthalpy (Δ sol H m) were determined for oxymatrine dissolution in 0.15 M citric acid solution. On the basis of these experimental data and calculated results, the kinetic equation, half-life, Δ sol H m, Δ sol G m, and Δ sol S m of the dissolution process were also obtained.

Abstract  

The molar heat capacity C p,m of 1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylic anhydride was measured in the temperature range from T=80 to 390 K with a small sample automated adiabatic calorimeter. The melting point T m, the molar enthalpy Δfus H m and the entropy Δfus S m of fusion for the compound were determined to be 303.80 K, 14.71 kJ mol−1 and 48.43 J K−1 mol−1, respectively. The thermodynamic functions [H T-H 273.15] and [S T-S 273.15] were derived in the temperature range from T=80 to 385 K with temperature interval of 5 K. The thermal stability of the compound was investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG), when the process of the mass-loss was due to the evaporation, instead of its thermal decomposition.

Abstract

In this article, the enthalpies of dissolution of resveratrol in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were measured using a RD496-2000 Calvet microcalorimeter at 298.15 K under atmospheric pressure. The differential enthalpy (Δdif H m) and molar enthalpy (Δsol H m) of dissolution of resveratrol in DMSO were determined, and the relationship between heat and the amount of solute was also established. Based on the thermodynamic and kinetic knowledge, the corresponding kinetic equation, half-life, Δsol H m, Δsol S m, Δsol G m, the relative partial molar enthalpy (Δsol H m(partial)) and the relative apparent molar enthalpy (Δsol H m(app)) of the dissolution process were obtained. The results showed that this study not only provided a simple method for the determination of the half-life for a drug, but also offered a theoretical reference for the clinical application of resveratrol.

Abstract  

A new method was proposed for determining the most probable mechanism function of a solid phase reaction. According to Coats-Redfern's integral equation Eβ→0 was calculated by extrapolating β to zero using a series of TG curves with different heating rates. Similarly, Eα→0 was calculated according to Ozawa's equation. The most probable mechanism function of the solid phase dehydration of manganese(II) oxalate dihydrate was confirmed to be G(α)=(1-α)1/2 by comparing Eα→0 with Eβ→0.

Different components of biodiversity may vary differently since species diversity was considered to be determined by resource availability but functional diversity was related to partitioning of niche space. Moreover, the harsh or benign conditions may result in different niche space partitioning by the coexisting species. For example, in harsh environments niche differentiation may be stronger resulting in higher functional diversity. In this study, we investigate species diversity and functional diversity along a south-to north-facing slope gradient with different resource availability in a sub-alpine meadow. Our results indicate that the patterns of species diversity and functional diversity are not consistent along this gradient. Both species richness and Shannon index of diversity increased, but functional diversity slightly decreased or changed a little from south-to north-facing slope. Moreover, these two components formed a quadratic relationship. Soil water content (SWC) was the limiting resource along this gradient. On one hand, it determined the species diversity; on the other hand, it also influenced functional diversity via affecting niche differentiation and species trait pool. In conclusion, functional diversity was determined by both species richness and niche differentiation with the influence of soil water content.

A detail study of distribution, host range, and seasonal pattern of western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), in Yunnan Province was conducted in 2004–2006. The pest is distributed throughout the province and was found in 22 out of 25 widely spaced locations surveyed. WFT was found feeding on 45 species of vegetables, ornamentals, and weeds in the province. Seasonal pattern of WFT on vegetables planted in open field and inside greenhouses was similar and, with exception of minor local differences, did not differ from information generated elsewhere. These findings may provide some useful data for the management of this and possibly other thrips pests in Yunnan.

Maize seeds from inbred line Mo17, susceptible to Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), were investigated for SCMV seed transmission. The seed quality significantly influenced the seed transmission rate. There were more infected seedlings derived from larger seeds than smaller seeds in both golden (G) and buff (B) seed groups, the proportion of infected seedlings in G1 was similar to G2 and B1, and significantly higher than the others (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). While the proportion of SCMV seed transmission was higher in golden (3.9%) than buff seeds groups (2.3%), and there were significantly difference (P < 0.05) between the both colors seeds. However the percentage of infected seedlings was closely related to the location of seeds on ears, most infected seedlings were derived from seeds of the middle (Part III) and mid-base regions (Part IV), and the both parts (Parts III and IV) were significantly higher than that of Part I (P < 0.05). Fisher’s exact test indicated that the seed quality was associated significantly with the efficiency of SCMV seed transmission.

Summary  

Single aerosol particles were analyzed in the ambient air of the center of Shanghai by scanning proton microprobe to obtain characteristic X-ray spectra (micro-PIXE) which were considered to be the fingerprints of these aerosol particles. The origin of the lead-containing particles was identified by the combination of the micro-PIXE spectra with pattern recognition technique. It was found that the most of the lead-containing particles were derived from vehicle exhaust, coal combustion and soil dust.
