Pathogenicity including virulence and aggressiveness characteristics was studied on three Plasmopara halstedii (the causal agent of downy mildew) isolates of races 710, 714 and 704 using five single zoosporangium isolates per pathogen isolate. Based on the reaction for the P. halstedii isolates to four sunflower hybrids H1 to H4 varying only in their downy mildew resistance genes, there were differences in virulence spectrum in pathogen isolates. Analysis of five single zoosporangium isolates for P. halstedii isolates showed significant variability within pathogen isolate for all aggressiveness criteria. There were no significant differences among pathogen isolates for all aggressiveness criteria. There were significant differences in the morphology of zoosporangia and sporangiophores for pathogen isolates. Genetic relationships were detected between pathogen isolates using 12 EST-derived markers. There was no intra-race genetic variation, but three genetically-identified groups were detected among pathogen isolates.
The fitness cost associated with virulence was analyzed in a local Plasmopara halstedii (sunflower downy mildew) population. Pathogenic and molecular analyses were carried out on seven pathogen isolates including five progeny isolates of five P. halstedii races arising from two parental ones. P. halstedii isolates showed significant differences for all aggressiveness criteria and important genetic variations. Two cases of relationship (positive and negative) between virulence and aggressiveness for progeny isolates as compared with parental ones were found. Mean virulence cost values varied between 19.9% for positive relationship between the two components of pathogenicity and 50.8% for negative one. For solving the presence of two cases in pathogenicity, the relationship between virulence and aggressiveness among the isolates of three different races localized in the same genetic clade was positive. The hypothesis explaining these cases are discussed.

Az agy véráramlásának szabályozásában az autoreguláció alapvető jelentőségű. Az agyi perfúzió – a szisztémás vérnyomás ingadozásai ellenére – az autoregulációnak köszönhetően jelentős tartományban (egészségesekben 50–150 Hgmm között) állandó. Hypertoniásokban az autoregulációs görbe jobbra, azaz nagyobb vérnyomásértékek felé tolódik el (patológiás autoreguláció). A vérnyomás drasztikus csökkentése, ha a vérnyomás az autoregulációs sáv alsó szintje alá esik, az agyi véráramlás redukciójához vezet. A szerzők 73 éves generalizált érbeteg férfi esetét ismertetik. Klinikai felvétele előtt a betegnél magasabb vérnyomást (160/100 Hgmm) és vércukorértéket (14,8 mmol/l) észlelt orvosa, ezek gyors rendezése után rövid időn belül a beteg kontaktusképtelenné vált. A klinika ambulanciájára érkezésekor kontaktusba nem volt vonható, soporocomatosus volt és agytörzsi tüneteket észleltek nála. Akut koponya-komputertomográfiás vizsgálattal vérzés, friss ischaemia nem ábrázolódott. Két nappal később készült kontroll-komputertomográfiás vizsgálat mindkét arteria carotis interna ellátási területét érintő, szekunder agytörzsi kompressziót okozó, friss ischaemiát detektált. Komputertomográfiás angiográfia során kétoldali arteria carotis interna okklúzió igazolódott. Az eset kapcsán megállapítható, hogy a nagyfokú vérnyomáscsökkenés önmagában ischaemiához vezethet, különösen krónikusan fennálló hypertonia, illetve az agyat ellátó erek szűkülete esetén. Orv. A good sense of humour is commonly offered in written dating advertisements demonstrating that humour is an important quality to have when attracting a mate, but not all humour is the same. This study used vignettes in the style of a personal advertisement to measure the attractiveness of affiliative and aggressive humour in different relationship contexts. The results demonstrated that affiliative humour was more attractive than aggressive humour in both relationship contexts but especially for long-term relationships. The results follow the pattern expected of affiliative humour styles being more attractive for long-term relationships due to being linked to qualities that may be important in long-term relationships such as likelihood of cooperation, and aggressive humour styles not being favoured for long-term relationships due to being linked to qualities that may be detrimental in long-term relationships. A follow-up study confirmed that different humour styles were associated with different perceived personality traits. Together these findings suggest that humour may be used to indicate an individual's personality and that the attractiveness of a good sense of humour depends on both the type of humour and the type of relationship being sought.
The influence of spent catalyst from catalytic cracking in fluidized bed on the hydration process of cement and the properties
of cement mortars were studied. The spent catalyst was used as an additive to cement in the mortars (10 and 20% of cement).
The samples of mortars kept in water for28 days, then they were placed in sulfate and chloride media for 2 months (the control
samples were kept in water for 3 months). After this time they were subjected to bending strength and compressive strength
determinations. Thermogravimetric and infrared absorption studies were performed and capillary elevation, capability of binding
heavy metals, and changes in mass and apparent density were determined too. The studies disclosed the pozzolana nature of
spent catalyst and its influence on cement mortars being in contact with corrosive media.

Lyocell, modal and
viscose fibers were subjected to mercerization or to solar degradation. The
ulterior thermal degradation was analyzed by means of differential scanning
calorimetry (DSC). Thermal analysis shows wide exothermic processes that began
between 250 and 300C corresponding to the main thermal degradation and
are associated to a depolymerization and decomposition of the regenerated
cellulose. Thermal degradation was analyzed as a function of concentration
and time. Lyocell fiber is the most stable under thermal degradation conditions.
Furthermore, mercerized samples are initially more degraded and present a
lower thermal stability.
