This article is a transcript and French translation of the two first chapters (1 and 2) of Book 2 of the Latin manuscript by the Jesuit F. X. Eder on the missions or reductions in the Amerindian nations of the Moxos and Baures. It is the continuation of the four first articles on the Jesuit missions in the now Bolivian Amazon basin in the 18th century, entitled: 1. Lima, Peru, and their inhabitants in the 18th century. 2. Jesuit missions in the now Bolivian Amazon basin in the 18th century. 3. Quality of the soil and description of the Indians. 4. Constructive works, believes and superstitions of the Indians, and how to convince them of joining a reduction.

Abstract

A method that combines the use of non-destructive neutron activation analysis and high-resolution α spectrometry has been developed for determination of the activities of 234U and 238U in geological samples of low uranium content. The 238U content is determined by k0-based neutron activation analysis, whereas the 234U/238U relationship is measured by α spectrometry after isolation and electrodeposition of the uranium extracted from a lixiviation with 6 M HCl. The main advantage of the method is the simplicity of the chemical operations, including the fact that the steps destined to assure similar chemical state for the tracer and the uranium species present in the sample are not necessary. The method was applied to soil samples from sites of the North Peru Coast. Uranium concentration range 3–40 mg/kg and the isotopic composition correspond to natural uranium, with about 10% uncertainty.

A chain of innovation is social network , defined by offering or adopting and economic innovation. The main hypothesis is that diffusion of rural innovations and the changes of life-style of the peasants (generally: the growth of market economy) do not necessarily restructure or destroy local networks, but in some  case  they will be reinforced. There are two different forms of economic behaviour: that of the  innovator  and of the model imitator. The innovator is an enterpreneur in Schumpeter's sense: an economic actor implementing innovation. Other entrepreneurs do not innovate so they copy the existing economic models. The members of peasant  societies are mostly model imitators. This economic behaviour is based on peasant social networks: prestigious people are also  recognised as economic examples to be followed, so their innovations will be accepted. On the other hand, the strongly tied rural actors, who worked mostly together and represented many times their relatonships with all due solemnity, are socially urged to help their smaller relations even with economic advice. If the example is to be the entrepreneur, many connected households will be also entrepreneurs - but not necessaily innovators. There  will be new technologies  adapted in the community; even life-style will chenge, but not the  social networks that present major stability. To illustrate this hypothesis there is the description of two cases of anthropological fieldwork conducted in rural areas. One is the example of an indigenous community of the  Peruvian Andes and the other one is of a Hungarian village.

Indian way of life and vision of the world, life in the reductions and a response to the critics . This last article is a transcript and French translation of the last seven chapters (6 to 12) of Book 3 of the Latin manuscript by the Jesuit F. X. Eder on the missions or reductions in the Amerindian nations of the Moxos and Baures. It is the continuation of the first eight articles on the Jesuit missions in the now Bolivian Amazon basin in the 18th century , entitled:

  1. 1. Lima, Peru, and their inhabitants in the 18th century.
  2. 2. Jesuit missions in the now Bolivian Amazon basin in the 18th century.
  3. 3. Quality of the soil and description of the Indians.
  4. 4. Constructive works, beliefs and superstitions of the Indians, and how to convince them to join a reduction.
  5. 5. Trees, fruits, plants and mammals.
  6. 6. Birds, hunting, crocodiles, dolphins, fishes and fishing.
  7. 7 Fauna (last part), poisons and antidote, arms used by Indians for hunting and fishing.
  8. 8. Choice of a spouse, feasts and games, meals, food and drink, handicraft and arts.

Absztrakt:

Orv Hetil. 2020; 161(38): 1646–1651.
