A tanulmány Magyarország és az EU-15-ök mezőgazdaságát hasonlítja össze - több szempontból. Felhívja a figyelmet, hogy stratégiai döntés kérdése, hogy növeljük a termelésünk területi intenzitását (amely jelenleg messze elmarad az EU-átlagtól), vagy a biogazdálkodás elterjesztése és marketingjének fejlesztése révén szerezzünk előnyöket. A szerző összehasonlítja a magyar és az EU-farmok szerkezetét mind gazdálkodási formáik, mind méretük, mind pedig specializációs irányaik vonatkozásában, továbbá rámutat az Unión belüli árak jelentős tagállamok közötti eltéréseire, és ennek hatására az agrárkereskedelemben. Hazánk agrárkereskedelmének volumene kisebb, mint bármelyik jelenlegi tagországé. A tanulmány szerint azonban a csatlakozás után agrárexportunk bővülésére lehet számítani, és bár a közvetlen kifizetések alacsonyabb mértéke miatt a versenyképesség terén átmenetileg nehezebb helyzetbe kerülünk, ezt kompenzálni látszanak a jelentősen alacsonyabb magyarországi termelési költségek. A Közös Agrárpolitikában való hatékony részvétel kulcsa, hogy mennyiben ismerjük fel a lehetőségeinket, valamint, hogy milyen koalíciókhoz kapcsolódunk a további reformok területén.
