Abstract  

The anion exchange behaviour of transplutonium elements, Am, Cm and Cf, has been studied in 0.3–1.3M hydrochloric acid solutions containing methyl alcohol 85% or more at elevated temperature. The distribution coefficients of the elements were increased monotonically with increasing concentration of hydrochloric acid and/or that of methyl alcohol at 90°C by forming anionic chloride complexes. Californium was separated by anion exchange within several drops of effluent from the trace amounts of americium, curium and fission products and macro amounts of aluminium and uranium, and samples for alpha-ray spectrometry were immediately prepared by directly evaporating the eluent drops on a counting disk.

Let a1<a2<... be an infinite sequence of positive integers, let k≥2 be a fixed integer and denote by Rk(n) the number of solutions of n=ai1+ai2+...+aik. P. Erdős and A. Srkzy proved that if F(n) is a monotonic increasing arithmetic function with F(n)→+∞ and F(n)=o(n(log n)-2) then |R2(n)-F(n)| =o((F(n))1/2) cannot hold. The aim of this paper is to extend this result to k>2.

Abstract  

Extraction of cesium by the nitrobenzene solution of bis-1,2-dicarbollylcobaltate in the presence of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6, L) was investigated. It was found, that besides hydrated cesium ion Cs org + the complexes CsL org + and CsL 2,org + were extracted to nitrobenzene phase. No maximums on dependencies of the cesium distribution ratio (D) on the concentration of crown in the systemc L was found andD increased monotony withc L. Values of extraction constants and stability constants of extracted species in nitrobenzene have been determined.

Abstract  

Mössbauer spectroscopy was used in order to get information about the anomalous austenite formation1 taking place between 450–600 °C in steel containing 12%Cr and 4%Ni. Even below the equilibrium transition temperature (640 °C) of transformation a monotonic increase of the relative spectral area of the line belonging to austenite was observed in the Mössbauer spectra of the steel isothermally aged at 550 °C with increasing ageing time. At the same time, the Cr content of the ferrite phase decreases. Time dependence of the quantity of austenite formed during the isothermal ageing follows the Avrami-kinetics with an exponent n=0.3.

Abstract

Let fL 2π be a real-valued even function with its Fourier series , and let S n(f,x) be the nth partial sum of the Fourier series, n≧1. The classical result says that if the nonnegative sequence {a n} is decreasing and , then if and only if . Later, the monotonicity condition set on {a n} is essentially generalized to MVBV (Mean Value Bounded Variation) condition. Very recently, Kórus further generalized the condition in the classical result to the so-called GM7 condition in real space. In this paper, we give a complete generalization to the complex space.

In this paper an extension of a Hölder-type inequality given in [C. E. M. Pearce and J. Pečarić, On an extension of Hölder’s inequality, Bull. Austral. Math. Soc., 51(1995), 453–458] is improved using log-convexity. Furthermore, new Cauchy-type means are defined and their monotonicity property is proven.

Sárközy proved that if g ( n ) is a monotonically increasing arithmetic function with g ( n ) → +∞ and g ( n ) = o ( n (log n ) −2 ) then | R 2 ( n ) − g ( n )| = o (√ g ( n )) cannot hold. We will show that for any ɛ > 0, the inequality | R 2 ( n ) − g ( n )| ≤ (1 − ɛ )√ g ( n ) cannot hold from a certain point on.

Abstract  

This study utilizes neural network to explore the nonlinear relationships between corporate performance and the patent traits measured from Herfindahl-Hirschman Index of patents (HHI of patents), patent citations, and relative patent position in the most important technological field (RPPMIT) in the US pharmaceutical industry. The results show that HHI of patents and RPPMIT have nonlinearly and monotonically positive influences upon corporate performance, while the influence of patent citations is nonlinearly U-shaped. Therefore, pharmaceutical companies should raise the degrees of the leading position in their most important technological fields and the centralization of their technological capabilities to enhance corporate performance.

The paper presents results of the analysis of the lateral-load response of an existing RC structure seismically upgraded by means of C-FRP. The structure was tested “as-is” under monotonic lateral loading conditions. It failed by a column-type collapse mechanism. The structure was repaired and upgraded by means of C-FRP. The structure has been tested again by a cyclic load test. Results demonstrate the successful implementation of C-FRP with a significant improvement of stiffness, strength and lateral displacement capacity of the upgraded structure. Finally a numerical study has been started with the aim to correctly capture the experimental results.
