Abstract

Beginning with a review of ecocriticism’s scholarly and activist origins and development through the related fields of eco-composition, ecofeminist literary criticism, and environmental justice literary studies, this essay discusses children’s environmental literature from the intersecting standpoints of animal studies, environmental justice, and ecofeminist literary criticism. From that intersectional standpoint, the essay raises three central questions for examining children’s environmental literature, and offers six boundary conditions for an ecopedagogy of children’s environmental literature.

Abstract

Semiconductor is the key element for information industry. The present study investigated the growth of semiconductor literature based on the database of INSPEC. Well-established bibliometric techniques, such as Bradford-Zipf's plot and Lotka's law have been employed to further explore the characteristics of semiconductor literature. Quantitative results on the literature growth, form of publication, research treatment, publishing country and language, author productivity and affiliate are reported. Moreover, from the Bradford-Zipf's plot, 25 core journals in semiconductor were identified and analyzed.

Abstract

Based on the author’s work as general editor of the Norton Anthology of World Literature, the essay develops an approach to world literature centered on world creation. The creation of literary worlds can be understood within the framework of possible worlds theory as developed by Thomas Pavel, Lubomir Dolezel and others. Taking its point of departure from possible worlds theory, the essay then focuses on specific genres that foreground the capacity of literature to create whole worlds, including world creation myths and science fiction. Three terms are used to analyze this body of literature: reference; scale; and model. While the category of reference accounts for the status of the worlds to be found within literary works, scale and model capture the particular challenges world creation literature faces.

Abstract

In this paper, the internal law of delay in the secondary literature publishing process is presented. The process is demonstrated to abide by the partial differential equation of periodical literature publishing process. A definite solution of the publishing delay process is derived. Accordingly, the expression of average publication delay indicator based on the particular solution is deduced. Then the problem is studied that some information of primary literatures is missed in information retrieval, and the relationship is established between the average delay indicator and the miss ratio of primary literatures in the index periodicals or databases. Also it is proposed that the primary literature should be used as a supplemental tool in information retrieval to guarantee the recall ratio.
