A new method (based on DTA and TG) for the determination of the eutectic composition is proposed for systems in which one of the components is unstable in the vicinity of the eutectic melting temperature. The eutectic composition established by means of this method for the CaCO3-CaF2 system is in very good agreement with the results obtained in a classical way.

Abstract  

Phase equilibrium in the CeBr3–CsBr binary system was established from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This system includes three compounds, namely Cs3CeBr6, Cs2CeBr5 and CsCe2Br7; and three eutectics located at CeBr3 molar fraction x = 0.125; 0.459 and 0.700, respectively. Cs3CeBr6 undergoes a solid–solid phase transition at 712 K and melts congruently at 1034 K. Cs2CeBr5 decomposes in the solid state into Cs3CeBr6 and CsCe2Br7 at 685 K. The third compound, CsCe2Br7, melts congruently at 877 K. The electrical conductivity of CeBr3–CsBr liquid mixtures was measured down to temperatures below solidification over the whole composition range. Results obtained are discussed in term of possible complex formation.

Abstract  

In this work the effect of oxygen pressure on the primary crystallisation fields for REBa2Cu3O7-x(RE=Nd, Sm, and Eu) has been studied. A DTA apparatus has been modified in order to carry out analyses under gas pressure, so the trend of temperatures of peritectic decomposition of the REBa2Cu3O7-xphases and of the eutectic equilibrium involving REBa2Cu3O7-x phases and flux mixture "Ba2Cu5O7" have been studied at oxygen pressures of 0.21, 1, and 10 atm. This showed that primary crystallisation fields spread at the increase of the oxygen pressure and allowed us to calculate the enthalpies of reactions of REBa2Cu3O7-xphases too.
