Abstract

Information-based modeling technology is supported by advanced information technology solutions in the building industry. The integration of its methodology into construction and design processes is already going on. However, many areas still have development possibilities; for instance, building surveys belong to these fields. Countless survey tools and methodologies endeavor to support and ease the work of professionals in design and construction, yet there is a need for comprehensive collaboration. This could be promoted by creating a direct link between survey tools and architectural design software.

This article demonstrates a tool under development that intends to provide a solution to this issue.

The unique spatial system of the medieval parish church in Kassa (now Košice, in Slovakia) induced strong debates in the literature, and some scholars called the master behind it a bungler. The reconstruction of the church at the end of the 19th century changed the floor plan entirely, with the result of a more regular arrangement.Using the drawings about the state of the church the medieval system is reconstructable in 3D. With the help of this 3D-model a structural analysis is possible.According to the spatial analysis and the structural calculations, the former unique layout of the church was the result of conscious planning.

This article is about the sketchbook of the Gothic master Hans Hammer from the late Gothic period. The sketchbook originates from the late 15th Century Germany. It has four main topics: drawings of machinery (building equipment), drawings of existing buildings, drawings of parts of buildings (pinnacles, stone profiles, vaulted ceilings, staircases, parapets), and texts (including a Hungarian-German glossary).The article reviews what is already known about Hans Hammer, then demonstrates and interprets a few drawings from the sketchbook, and outlines the direction of the future research.

Finite element modeling is employed to study the behavior and characteristics of flush end plate, bolted connections. To investigate the failure mechanism and non-linear behavior of the connections a 3D model is created and analyzed using non-linear material models and contacts between components of the connection. The paper shows the good agreement between the experimental and numerical results.

Building information modeling is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle. The lifecycle of building includes also a stage of reconstruction and technology of terrestrial laser scanning is an effective method to create 3D building information models of the real state. Laser Scanning is a non-contact technology that captures the shape of physical objects and gives exact representation of the building geometry. Current scanning technology has the ability to send out thousands of beams per second, resulting in a ‘point cloud’ of data. This study offers an overview of the survey planning stages, field operation, processing of point cloud data and the possibility to integrate data into the building information modeling.

Abstract

Most accidents in roundabouts occur at the entries, partly due to poor visibility. To analyse this problem a sample roundabout with some visibility obstacles was measured by laser scanner and data were put into a 3D model. The fields of view were studied from the viewpoint heights of car and truck drivers as well. To assess the results, three indicators were defined: the hidden sight distance, the hidden sight triangle area and the angle of hide. These indicators were measured in the point cloud model. Through these indicators the adequacy of visibility conditions can be assessed.

This paper presents a CAD-based approach for a new sheet metal forming technology that is Dieless Incremental Sheet Forming (DSF). This is established through the development of a program that allows a 3D model to be created with the use of a CAD Application Programming Interface (API) and an offline Slave Tool Path calculator based on a commercial CAM program’s output (Master Tool Path). The author will show how to apply parameterizations in the same model by utilizing the CAD API to overcome problems of a commercial post-processor and how to calculate Slave Tool Paths for different forming strategies.

The development of an efficient procedure for 3d modeling and finite element simulation of metal foams is one of the greatest challenges for engineer researchers nowadays. Creating 3d CAD model is alone a demanding engineering task due to its extremely complex geometry, and the proper finite element analysis process is still in the center of the research. The increasingly widespread application of the metal foams, e.g. in vehicle and medical industry, requires this knowledge in the design phase. A closed-cell metal foam is studied using different analyzing methods where the aim is to collect information about the composition and geometry (structure) that is satisfactory for the later research. Using statistical methods microscopic, X-ray and surface analyzing studies on the specimens produced according to the concerning standard are evaluated. The main goal of this part of the project is to obtain structural information and to determine the homogeneity or the in-homogeneity property of the metal foam specimens taken from different locations.
