Abstract  

The solubility and the degree of degradation of water-insoluble particulate glucan isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae were studied after -irradiation. The different radiolytic stability of /1–3/-, /1–6/- and -glucan linkages of the complex polysaccharide can be used to achieve its fragmentation and provide a new insight to its macromolecular structure.

Abstract  

Chemical and structural changes of two-insoluble heteroxylans of different origin after -irradiation treatment were studied by IR spectroscopy and sugar analysis of the obtained polymeric fractions. Radiolytic degradation in solid states was found to be an effective fragmentation method for structural analysis of complex insoluble polysaccharides.
