In the present period of the development of linguistic carpathology (a separate linguistic disciplin which studies reasons, development and result of Carpathian language contacts and interferences) the dialectological research and mainly the works of linguistic geography are considerably important. The most significant project of this sphere of research is the Carpathian Dialectological Atlas. During the preparation and realization of this macro-atlas the knowledge and experience acquired in the studies of Slovak dialectologists were involved in a considerable extent.

Linguistic works dealing with research of language contacts and interference use a term atrophy which indicates various changes connected with a permissiveness of norm a minority (isolated) language. In the United States of America also the Slovak language (Slovak dialects) exists as a minority language. In this paper some examples of atrophic changes in word-formation level are presented.

Set comparison being a multicomponent and idiomatic naming affects widely the sphere of similarity. Comparative phrases in set comparisons denoting colours are, unambiguously, of intensifying as well as of hyperbolizing meaning. Commentated comparison of equivalent and structurally identical Slovak and Polish dialectal set comparisons with adjectives biely, cervený (white, red) and cierny (black) points out that comparisons were developed on the basis of the same motivation; they are realized through the same parts of speech and have, in principle, the same meaning.
