Abstract  

Our purpose is to generalize and to extend a theorem of S. Sharma and S. K. Varma [15] concerning the order of approximation by Abel means in the Lipschitz norm. The proof is basically based on a simple extension of a general theorem of L. Leindler, A. Meir and V. Totik [6] related to approximation by finite summability methods.

The algological investigations in the protected landscape areas have started at the end of the 19th century. As a result of the intensive floristical and taxonomic research a large number of records were accumulated over a period of last century, which were summarised in a monograph (Németh 2004). In the book mentioned above the occurrence data of 3,724 algal species and intraspecific taxa were processed. The red list of algae in Hungary was also elaborated as an aim to reveal the algological state of the water bodies in these areas. The algal taxa are listed into threatened categories using quantitative criteria for classification. The quantitative criteria considered in the present study are based on and only on the occurrence data of algae. The occurrence data is to be considered as the number of localities in which a given taxon was found, without any consideration how many times and how many authors it has been published by. Three criteria and six categories were used for create the red list. The measure of the first criterion (a) was calculated from the date of the publication of the last occurrence of a given taxon. The second and third criteria (r and v) express the rarity of the taxa and the value of the locality respectively. The numeric values of the last two criteria were calculated from the rows and columns of the data matrix contained the occurrence data using the Rényi's generalised entropy functions of order a = 1 and a= 2. The original values of the three quantitative criteria were then converted to the values of a logarithmic interval scale and were given as a three-digit code number. For classification the 504 threatened algal taxa observed in Hungarian protected landscape areas six categories were used as follows: Extinct (EX), Critically endangered (CR), Endangered (EN), Vulnerable (VU), Low risk (LR), Presumably threatened (PR).

Abstract  

A method for the preconcenration of strontium on loaded and unloaded polyurethane foams is described. Parameters affecting the extraction of metal ion, such as pH, reagent concentration and background medium have been investigated. The method can be applied to preconcentrate strontium from aqueous samples.

Summary

A reversed-phase ion-pairing liquid chromatographic (RP-IP-HPLC) method for simultaneous assay of theophylline (TH), phenobarbital (PB), codeine (CD), and ephedrine (EP) in an extemporaneous (magistral) suppository was developed and validated and used to investigate a reported serious adverse event. Samples were dissolved in dichloromethane and extracted by two-step liquid-liquid extraction with acetate buffer (pH 5.0) and, subsequently, 0.1 m NaOH solution. Separation was performed on an end-capped C18 silica column with stepwise gradient elution. Sample preparation and chromatographic conditions were optimized on the basis of the pK a values of the analytes. Freedom from interference from the excipients, linearity (r 2 > 0.999 for all the active ingredients), range (0.01–0.08 mg mL−1 for TH, CD, and EP; 0.0025–0.02 mg mL−1 for PB), intra-day and inter-day precision, and accuracy (recovery >95% for TH, CD, and EP and >90% for PB) of the method were demonstrated. Non-compliance of the examined product was confirmed.

Abstract  

Coals mined in some regions of the Transdanubian Middle Mountains in Hungary have elevated concentrations of natural radionuclides as238U,226Ra, etc. Therefore, coal slags and ashes used for insulation of the school buildings may lead to high dose contributions on the students. In the city of Tatabánya one school was found where the external dose rates in the classrooms were of 500–900 nGy/h. In spite of the high external dose rates, the radon concentrations measured were small usually less than 100 Bq/m3.

Purpose

Remote screening for retinopathy of prematurity by wide-field digital imaging and network telemedicine is increasingly used to prevent blindness without the unnecessary transport of infants. Our purpose was to train and license dedicated neonatal transport nurses to do this in Hungary.

Materials and methods

We developed a complex, four-step curriculum in mobile retinotelemetry. Using a robust selection process, we invited eight transport nurses (NtNP/RtN) to receive training during the 2008–2017 project. The curriculum started with the basics of ophthalmology. Using an artificial eye, it continued with the theory and practice of ophthalmologic exams. Then, supervised by an ophthalmologist, each nurse performed 50 video recordings of anaesthetized and non-anaesthetized infants.

Results

After demonstrating their competence, five of the eight candidate nurses received a license for retinotelemetry. During their subsequent practice, they had to undergo case reviews half-yearly by a specialist and renew their license every 2–3 years. During the 2008–2016 period, we analysed 7,177 remote screenings from a training perspective. During January 1–August 31 in 2017 period, we analysed extra data from 795 remote screenings of 332 infants from specific prevention perspectives.

Conclusions

With the cooperation of preexisting neonatal transport service and the ophthalmological reading centre of a university hospital, a mobile telemedicine screening network was successfully developed in Hungary. Our results demonstrate how retinotelemetry can support different levels of prevention medicine. The network should work effectively and efficiently with continuous professional development.
