An HPGe detector can be used to assay the fuel on-line to ensure that the burnup limit is not breached. The potential exists for using a relative burnup indicator, which would allow the use of a relative self-calibrating approach for efficiency determination. The utilization of several fission products as built-in on-line relative calibration standards is explored using the computer codes ORIGEN2.1, MCNP4C, and SYNTH to produce simulated gamma-ray spectra of the fuel pebbles at various levels of burnup. \par }
Abstract
Thermal behavior of aqueous hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC)/surfactant mixtures was studied in the dilute concentration regime using micro-differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The surfactant used was sodium n-dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The heat capacity of HPMC gel with various concentrations of SDS was much higher than that of the pure HPMC gel. The addition of SDS at different concentrations showed dissimilar influences on the gelation of HPMC; SDS at lower concentrations (≤6 mM) did not affect gelation temperature significantly except for enhancing the heat capacity whilst SDS at higher concentrations (≥6 mM) not only resulted in the gelation of HPMC at higher temperatures but also changed the pattern of the gelation thermograph from a single mode to a bimodal. On the basis of the observed thermal behavior of HPMC/SDS systems, the mechanism behind the sol-gel transition was discussed in terms of the properties of the surfactant and their influences on the extent of polymer/surfactant binding and polymer/polymer hydrophobic association. Gelation kinetics was analysed using the results from the DSC measurements. The kinetic parameters were determined.
Abstract
The sorption behavior of technetium on pyrrhotine was studied with batch experiments and diluted sulfuric acid (less than 2.88 mol/l) was used to dissolve the technetium adsorbed on pyrrhotine. A significant sorption of technetium on pyrrhotine was observed under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and the sorption on the mineral was supposed to be due to the reduction of TcO4 - to insoluble TcO2 .nH2O. Sorbed technetium on the mineral could be desorbed by diluted sulfuric acid. The maximum desorption ratio under aerobic conditions was much higher than that of under anaerobic conditions, meanwhile, the desorption rates under anaerobic conditions were higher than that of under aerobic conditions in the initial stage of the experiments.
Tobacco rattle virus (TRV-K) was first identified in a symptomatic Gladiolus plant cultivated in Korea. We analyzed the TRV-K genome and compared its phylogeny with other TRV isolates. After constructing of a full-length genomic RNA2 strand clone, a complete sequence was generated from several overlapping clones. The cloned genome was 3261 bases in length, identical to TRV-K, and had three open reading frames. TRV-K had the highest sequence identity with the American isolate TRV-ORY. Sequence analysis of the RNA2 genome showed that TRV-K contains an intact 2a, 2b, and 2c coding sequence and an RNA1-related 3′ terminus, which is typical of TRV RNA2. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that TRV-K is in the same cluster as the American isolates and another Korean isolate, TRV-SK; however, it was in a different cluster than the European isolates.
Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI) is a traditional Chinese medicine injection, widely used to enhance immune function of clinical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. In this study, a high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection-evaporative light scattering detection (HPLC-DAD-ELSD) method was established for quality control of SFI, which could simultaneously semiquantitatively reflect the constituents displayed in the chromatographic profile of SFI. The relative retention time and relative peak areas of the 21 common peaks related to the reference peak were calculated. The validity and advantage of this method were validated by systematically comparing chromatograms of 10 batches of SFI samples with the analytical methods of principal component analysis and angle cosine method recommended by the State Food and Drug Administration of China. Moreover, a total of 21 constituents of SFI were identified or tentatively characterized in the fingerprint via ultrafast liquid chromatography-diode array detection-quadrupole time-of-flight (UFLC-DAD-Q-TOF) tandem mass spectrometry technique on the basis of the retention time, ultraviolet spectra, fragmentation patterns, and reported literatures. All the results proved that the technique was useful in comprehensive quality evaluation of SFI and further study.
Abstract
To obtain a biodegradable polymer material with satisfactory thermal properties, higher elongation and modulus of elasticity, a new copolyester, poly(hexylene terephthalate-co-lactide) (PHTL), was synthesized via direct polycondensation from terephthaloyl dichloride, 1,6-hexanediol and oligo(lactic acid). The resulting copolyesters were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). By using the relative integral areas of the dyad peaks in 1H NMR spectrum of copolyesters PHTL, the sequence lengths of the hexylene terephthalate and lactide units in the resultant copolyesters are 3.5 and 1.5, respectively. Compared to poly(hexylene terephthalate) (PHT), PHTL has lower T m but higher T g due to the incorporation of lactide unit into the main chains of copolyesters. The degradation test of copolyesters under a physiological condition shows that the degradability of PHTL is sped up due to incorporation of lactide segments.
Plants with deficiency in Gibberellins (GAs) biosynthesis pathway are sensitive to exogenous GA3, while those with deficiency in GAs signaling pathway are insensitive to exogenous GA3. Thus, exogenous GA3 test is often used to verify whether the reduced height (Rht) gene is involved in GAs biosynthesis or signaling pathway. In the present study, we identified the genetic factors responsive to exogenous GA3 at the seedling stage of common wheat and analyzed the response of the plant height related quantitative trait loci (QTL) to GA3 to understand the GAs pathways the Rht participated in. Recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between KN9204 and J411 with different response to exogenous GA3 were used to screen QTL for the sensitivity of coleoptile length (SCL) and the sensitivity of seedling plant height (SSPH) to exogenous GA3. Two additive QTL and two pairs of epistatic QTL for SCL were identified, meanwhile, two additive QTL and three pairs of epistatic QTL for SSPH were detected. For the adult plant height (PH) investigated in two environments, six additive QTL were identified. Three QTL qScl-4B, qSsph-4B and qPh-4B were mapped in one cluster near the functional marker Rht-B1b. When PH were conditional on SSPH, the absolute additive effect value of qPh-4B and qPh-6B were reduced, suggesting that the Rhts in both two QTL were insensitive to exogenous GA3, while the additive effect values of qPh-2B, qPh-3A, qPh-3D and qPh-5A were not significantly changed, indicating that the Rhts in these QTL were sensitive to exogenous GA3, or they were not expressed at the seedling stage.
Abstract
Background and aims
Problematic smartphone use (PSU) has gained attention, but its definition remains debated. This study aimed to develop and validate a new scale measuring PSU-the Smartphone Use Problems Identification Questionnaire (SUPIQ).
Methods
Using two separate samples, a university community sample (N = 292) and a general population sample (N = 397), we investigated: (1) the construct validity of the SUPIQ through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses; (2) the convergent validity of the SUPIQ with correlation analyses and the visualized partial correlation network analyses; (3) the psychometric equivalence of the SUPIQ across two samples through multigroup confirmatory factor analyses; (4) the explanatory power of the SUPIQ over the Short Version of Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS-SV) with hierarchical multiple regressions.
Results
The results showed that the SUPIQ included 26 items and 7 factors (i.e., Craving, Coping, Habitual Use, Social Conflicts, Risky Use, Withdrawal, and Tolerance), with good construct and convergent validity. The configural measurement invariance across samples was established. The SUPIQ also explained more variances in mental health problems than the SAS-SV.
Discussion and conclusions
The findings suggest that the SUPIQ shows promise as a tool for assessing PSU. Further research is needed to enhance and refine the SUPIQ as well as to investigate its clinical utility.
