Abstract
121Sb Mössbauer spectra of the title complexes, whose isomer shifts are intermediate between the organoantimony(III) and organoantimony(V) compounds, suggest that considerable electrons are donated from hydrido ligand and Fe(CO)4 fragments to the antimony atom.

Abstract
The enthalpies of dilution of aqueous solutions of methanol, ethanol, l-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, l-pentanol, 1-hexanol, cyclohexanol, 1,3-butanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 2,3-butanediol and poly-alcohol(cyclohexaamylose) have been determined at high dilution as a function of the mole fraction of alcohol at 298.15 K, by a rocking twin-microcalorimeter of the heat-conduction type. A smoothing equation of the enthalpies of dilution against the mole fractions of alcohols are given. The graphical comparison of experimental results with their smoothed values or literature ones, taking into account the dependence of the mole fractions, are also presented. It has been found for the aqueous solutions of shorter n-alcohols than hexanol that at very high dilution, exothermic values of molar enthalpies of dilution from a definite mole fraction of alcohols to infinite dilution with the change of mole fraction is proportional to carbon number of n-alcohols. The molar enthalpies of infinite dilution of aqueous butanediol isomers and 1-hexanol were very large. Molar enthalpies of infinite dilution of aqueous poly-alcohol (cyclohexaamylose) were endothermic.
Abstract
pH dependence of the adsorption of Na, Sc, Ga, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, and Pd on -Fe2O3 from a 0.1 mol dm–3 NaCl solution was studied by using a multitracer technique. Desorption of the metal ions from the -Fe2O3 with the adsorbed metal ions at pH 11 was also studied by lowering the pH of the suspensions. The desorption curve of each element was in good agreement with the adsorption curve except for Ru and Rh under conditions studied. Adsorption kinetics showed that the adsorption of most metal ions increases with shaking time before an adsorption equilibrium is attained. An increase in the adsorption was also observed with an elevation in temperature for the elements, suggesting that the adsorption is involved in chemisorption.
A relatively homogeneous group of streptomycete isolates was obtained from netted scab lesions of potato tubers collected from a potato field in Hokkaido, Japan. Based on 55 phenotypic data of 72 Streptomyces strains selected from these isolates together with spectral data on their soluble pigments and with data of a PCR analysis, using species specific primers, these netted scab causing pathogenic organisms were identified as S. acidiscabies. S. acidiscabies had previously been isolated from deep (common) scab lesions in the USA and reported as thaxtomin A producer. In contrast, our S. acidiscabies strains were not able to induce deep scab symptoms on potato minitubers in pot test, did not produce the phytotoxin thaxtomin A and did not contain the pathogenicity related gene, nec-1.
Abstract
Transport and distribution of metal ions in rice and soybean plants were studied using multitracers produced by irradiating an Au target by 135 MeV/nucleon12C,14N, or16O ions accelerated by RIKEN Ring Cyclotron. The multitracer consisted of radioisotopes of the following elements: Be, Na, Sc, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn, Se, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Ag, Te, Ba, Ce, Pm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Tm, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ir, and Pt. Rice and soybean plants were grown in a nutrient solution and also on soil containing a multitracer. -ray spectroscopy of different parts of the plants showed that all the elements were more or less taken up by roots, while appreciable transport to leaves and seeds was observed only for Mn, Zn, Se, Rb, Sr, and Ba.
Calorimetric study on inclusion of some alcohols into α-cyclodextrin cavities
Molecular mechanical calculation of hydration Gibbs energies
Abstract
The enthalpies of transfer 2-propanol, 1,2-butanediol (BD) and 1-hexanol from aqueous to aqueous α-cyclodextrin (CD) solutions have been determined by microcalorimetry at various mole fractions at 298.15 K. To clarify stabilities of inclusion complexes in aqueous solutions, hydration Gibbs energies calculation of inclusion complex of CD-alcohol were performed by using the molecular mechanics with the MMFF94s force field in the generalized born/surface area (GB/SA) model. The largest stabilization in Gibbs energy is obtained by the hydration (Δhyd H) of α-CD-1,2-butanediol complex among α-CD-butanediol isomers complexes.
Abstract
36Cl in soil samples from the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site (former USSR) was measured at Kyushu University Tandem Laboratory (KUTL) by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) coupled with projectile X-ray detection (PXD) technique. The separation of competing 36S and 36Cl atomic isobars, was satisfactory by PXD technique. Measured 36Cl/Cl atom ratio was (5.0±0.6).10–10 and an average activity of 36Cl was calculated as (2.0±0.2) mBq/g, which is in a good agreement with that obtained by liquid scintillation counting (LSC) method previously. Currently developed AMS system at the Kyushu University can be applied for routine 36Cl analysis at 36Cl/Cl = 10–11 atom ratio level.
Abstract
The multitracer technique was applied to elucidate of influence of humate formation on adsorption behavior of ultratrace elements. Dissolved fractions of Co, As, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Ba, Ce, Eu, Gd, Tb, Yb, Lu, Hf, Re and Pt in contact with kaolinite or silica gel were determined simultaneously either in the presence or absence of humic acid, which was partly adsorbed on the solid. Percentage of dissolved fraction of rare earth elements was identical to that of humic acid, indicating high stability of the rare earth-humate complex. Hydrolysis was the most important factor controlling the behavior of Zr and Hf. Both hydrolysis and humate complexation influenced the adsorption of Co, Sr, Ba and Pt, whereas neither affected the distribution of As, Rb and Re.
Abstract
The direct absorption of atmospheric elements via soybean leaves has been studied using a radioactive multitra r technique. Soybean was cultivated until it bore seeds in a box under no-rain conditions and with introduction of multitracer-adsorbed cellulose powders. The radioactive nuclides of 40 elements were produced from Au target irradiated with14N, and the nuclides with relatively long half-life of the elements Sc, Mn, Co, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Y, Eu, Gd, Yb, Re, and Ir were dominantly observed in each part of soybean plant.
