The correlations between seismic activities and tidal periodicities are investigated at three seismic zones: Vrancea (Romania), Bucaramanga (Colombia) and Hindu Kush (Afganistan). The epicenter of earthquake nests distribution is characterized by intermediate-depth. In this paper, we study the influences of the principal lunar and solar semidiurnal tidal components M2 and S2 on seismic activities. The tidal phase is determined by HiCum stacking method according to the earthquake occurrence time and location. The stacking function could be shifted in time and space domain which provides the possibility to evaluate the seismic activities and tidal periodicities at both. The tidal phase distribution was tested by two independent methods Schuster and Permutation. The null hypothesis between seismic activities and selected tidal periodicities is rejected when the statistical
-values obtained by the two tests reach less than 5% level. As a result of the shift stacking function in time axis, a systematic temporal pattern related to the decrease of the
-values seems to be preceding occurrence of the larger earthquakes. A “tidal tomography” map is obtained when stacking function is shifted in 3D geometry following the epicenters distribution.
In order to identify the kinetic process of self-heating in DSC experiment for Ti+3Al→TiAl3 reaction, two approaches, linear-fitting approach developed from Semenov"s theory of spontaneous ignition and variation of
Friedman method, were carried out with cylindrical Ti-75 at% Al samples. Following these approaches, two identical activation
energies are obtained as 16915 kJ mol-1 and 1705 kJ mol-1, respectively. Compared with the activation energies of reactions and interdiffusions between Ti and Al, the possible rate-controlling
process of self-heating in DSC experiment for Ti+3Al→TiAl3 reaction is the interdiffusion between Ti and Al through TiAl3-layer.

Uniformly carbon-covered alumina (CCA) was
prepared via the carbonisation of sucrose highly dispersed on the alumina
surface. Using special thermogravimetry and sorptometry methods physicochemical
properties of carbon-covered alumina surfaces were investigated. A numerical
and analytical procedure for the evaluation of total heterogeneous properties
(desorption energy distribution and pore-size distribution functions) on the
basis of liquid thermodesorption from the sample surfaces under the quasi-equilibrium
conditions are presented. The desorption energy distribution was derived from
the mass loss Q-TG and the differential mass loss Q-DTG curves of thermodesorption
of pre-adsorbed polar and apolar liquid films. For the first time, the evaluation
of the fractal dimensions of carbon-covered alumina using the sorptometry,
thermogravimetry and AFM data is presented.

The critical furnace chamber temperature (T′ign) of the thermal explosion synthesis reaction Ti+3Al→TiAl3 is studied by isothermal and non-isothermal DSC. The reaction product is characterized by using the X-ray powder diffraction.
The value of T′ign is between 740 and 745C obtained from the isothermal DSC observations, and 729C obtained from non-isothermal DSC curves.
It shows that these two values have a good consistency. With the help of the apparent activation energy of the reaction obtained
by Friedman method and the value of T′ign0 by the multiple linear regression of the T′igns at different heating rates (β), the critical temperature (Tb) of thermal explosion for Ti–75at%Al mixture is estimated to be 785C.

Patrinia scabra Bunge has long been used in clinic as a traditional Chinese medicine for treating leukemia and cancer and regulating host immune response. Despite their wide use in China, no report on system analysis on their chemical constituents is available so far. The current study was designed to profile the fingerprint of ethyl acetate extract of it, and in addition, to characterize the major fingerprint peaks and determine their quantity. Therefore, a detailed gradient high-performance liquid chromatography was described to separate more than 30 compounds with satisfactory resolution in P. scabra Bunge. Based on the chromatograms of 10 batches samples, a typical high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) fingerprint was established with 23 chromatographic peaks being assigned as common fingerprint peaks. Furthermore, a quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF/MS) was coupled for the characterization of major compound. As (+)-nortrachelogenin was the most predominant compound in P. scabra Bunge, the quantification on it was also carried out with the method being validated. As a result, (+)-nortrachelogenin was found to be from 1.33 to 2.21 mg g−1 in this plant material. This rapid and effective analytical method could be employed for quality assessment of P. scabra Bunge, as well as pharmaceutical products containing this herbal material.

Research on extracted 90Y with di(2-ethylhexyl) orthophosphoric acid (P204) in lipiodol for liver cancer was made to evaluate the stability of extracted
90Y with P204 in lipiodol (90Y-P204-lipiodol) in serum of newly-born cattle and human’s blood. At first, P204 (extractant) was dissolved in lipiodol (organic
phase). Secondly, 90Y was extracted to organic phase after adding 90Y solution into test tube with P204 and lipiodol in it. The extracting efficiency with 0.01 mol/l P204 could reach 99.4%.
The stability of 90Y-P204-lipiodol has been experimented in physiological saline solution as preparation for further stability experiment. The
result indicated that the extracted 90Y lost 0.02%–0.36% in physiological saline solution. The results of further stability experiment showed that loss efficiencies
of extracted 90Y after adding newly-born cattle serum 1 hour, 1 day, 3 and 7 days are 3.38%, 3.12%, 4.29% and 6.62%, respectively, and loss
efficiencies of extracted 90Y after adding human’s blood 1 hour, 1 day, 3 and 7 days are 2.55%, 5.91%, 7.88% and 5.63%, respectively. Our data also indicated
that 90Y is the most possible radioisotope for being extracted with P204 in lipiodol to treat hepatocellular carcinoma, particularly
in cases of unresectable liver tumors, since 90Y is available from several commercial sources in clinical quality. We conclude that the stability of 90Y-P204-lipiodol tested with newly-born cattle serum and human’s blood attained great results. 90Y-P204-lipiodol is a kind of potential and exciting pharmaceutical in inerventional therapy for liver cancer and we can carry
on the further animal test and clinical trial.
Six coloured and six non-coloured waxy rice varieties were analyzed by determining amylose, fat, and protein content, pasting, and thermal properties. Significant differences in protein content as well as pasting properties between coloured and non-coloured waxy rice were identified. It was demonstrated that protein may have a main influence on pasting and thermal properties of waxy rice. In addition, the optimal linear relationship between protein and pasting or thermal properties was found by combining RVA and DSC data using Principal component analysis (PCA). Typical indicators, which can classify coloured and non-coloured waxy rice, could be identified by Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). In pasting properties, trough and consistency viscosity were typical indicators; in thermal properties, enthalpy and stop temperature were typical indicators.

Prorocentrum donghaiense caused large-scale red tides off Chinese coast in recent years. Expressed sequence tag (EST) analysis was carried out for this dinoflagellate in order to identify the genes involved in its proliferation and death. A cDNA library was constructed for P. donghaiense at late exponential growth phase, and 308 groups of EST were generated, which include 36 contigs and 272 singletons. Among 22 groups showed homologies with known genes, 2 matched significantly with caspase and proliferating cell nuclear antigen. Caspase and proliferating cell nuclear antigen are 2 key proteins involved in programmed cell death. Their identification evidenced preliminarily the induction of PCD in aging P. donghaiense. The identified included also calmodulin and protein phosphatase, two proteins involved in diverse cell processes including PCD by binding to or modifying others.

In terms of pre-safety assessment of a potential site for high-level radioactive wastes disposal in China, the geochemical
behavior of key radionuclides which tend to be released from the repository must be thoroughly investigated. 99Tc is a long-lived fission product with appreciable productivity in nuclear fuel, and Tc (+7) has unlimited solubility in
near-field geochemical environments. In this study, the effects of ionic strength and humic acid on 99TcO4− sorption and diffusion in Beishan granite were investigated with through-diffusion and batch sorption experiments. Results
indicated that the effective diffusion coefficients (De) of 99TcO4− in Beishan granite varied from 1.07 × 10−12 to 1.28 × 10−12 m2/s without change with ionic strength, while the distribution coefficients (Kd) negatively correlated with ionic strength of the rock/water system. This study also indicates that there is no evident influence
of humic acid concentration on the diffusion behavior of 99TcO4− in Beishan granite, due to the limited interaction between humic acid and 99TcO4−.
