Abstract  

Samples of zirconium antimonate have been prepared under varying conditions of precipitation. Their properties, composition, and ion-exchange behaviour are reported. The 1g Kd vs. pH curves are given for Rb+, Cs+, Zn2+, Ca2+ and Tl3+ ions. The distribution coefficients of 26 metal ions have been measured and several separations of analytical and radiochemical importance achieved.

Abstract  

The extraction of cadmium(II), indium(III) and thallium(III) with high molecular weight amines have been studied from aqueous hydrochloric acid solutions. Using the data mutual binary separations of these three elements with high separation coefficients are proposed. Various variables like type of amine, amine concentration and organic diluent were explored to propose the best conditions of separations.

Abstract  

Ferrocyanides of zirconium(IV) and tin(IV), antimonates of cerium(IV) and titanium(IV), and cerium(IV) tungstate, has been shown to be useful materials as inorganic ion exchangers in radio- and analytical chemistry. These materials are sufficiently stable towards high dose of γ-radiations. Attempt is made to study some structural aspects and possible exchange sites of these materials using different techniques like thermal, Mössbauer and infrared spectroscopy.

Abstract  

Zirconium arsenophosphate (ZAP) a new inorganic ion exchanger has been synthesized under varying conditions of precipitation. The material possesses good chemical and thermal stabilities and regeneration power. It shows no breakdown on irradiation with a gamma dose of ∼109 rad. ZAP shows high affinity for univalent ions like Rb+, Ag+ and Tl+. The Kd-values have been determined for a number of metal ions from acid media. The stoichiometry of metal ion uptake was checked using almost carrier-free radiotracers. Sixteen binary/ternary separations of metal ions are reported on a ZAP column.

Abstract  

Samples of titanic antimonate have been prepared under varying conditions of precipitation, and their properties, compositions and ion-exchange behaviours and the effect of γ-radiation and reported. Some topical separations have been performed using this material.

Abstract  

The liquid-liquid extraction behaviour of mercury(II) as bromide, iodide and thiocyanate has been investigated in different oxygenated and non-oxygenated solvents. The effects of the molarity of acids, their sodium or potassium salts, the concentration of Hg(II) ions, the temperature and masking anions have been studied. The possibilities of separation of Hg(II) from Zn(II), Cd(II) Tl(I), Tl(II) and Au(III) in these extractions are discussed.

Abstract  

Samples of zirconium ferrocyanide have been prepared under different conditions of precipitation, and their properties, composition and ion-exchange behaviour are reported. The distribution ratios of 21 metal ions are given and some topical separations have been achieved using these data.

Abstract  

The title compound-octylphenyl acid phosphate/OPAP/ in toluene has been used for the systematic extraction studies of uranium/VI/ and some trivalent lanthanides from nitric acid medium. The effect of variables like nature of diluent and concentrations of nitric acid and OPAP on extraction has been investigated. Basing on the extraction data, optimum conditions for the separation of U/VI/ from Ce/III/, Nd/III/, Gd/III/ and Tb/III/ have been worked out.

Abstract  

The extraction behaviour is reported of zinc(II), cadmium(II) and mercury(II) complexes of thiocarbohydrazide in benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, di-isopropyl ether, ethyl acetate, amyl acetate, and amyl alcohol. The separation of the three elements has been achieved by the use of various masking agents, as well as by making use of the effect ofpH on their extractability.
