Gliadins were extracted from three wheat varieties, viz. Nongda 99260037 (good quality), Henan 9023 (media quality) and Nongda 98123 (poor quality), and α-, β-, γ-, ω -gliadins were purified from Nongda 99260037 using preparative SDS-PAGE. The total gliadins and α-, β-, γ-, ω -gliadins were used as antigens to immunise BALB/C mice, and the corresponding polyclonal antibodies were prepared, designated as Anti-A, Anti-B, Anti-C, Anti-A α , Anti-A β , Anti-A γ and Anti-A ω , respectively. Binding of the polyclonal antibodies with 8 varieties, that varied in quality properties, showed correlations with some wheat quality parameters. Correlation coefficients between antibodies against total gliadins or γ -, and ω -gliadin of Nongda 99260037 and quality parameters were higher than other antibodies. Of seven polyclonal antibodies tested, three (Anti-A γ , Anti-A ω and Anti-A) displayed significant positive or negative associations between antibody binding and dough development time, strength, valorimenter value and stability time, but no significant correlations were observed with water absorption. These results suggest that polyclonal antibodies could be used for rapid prediction and screening of wheat quality parameters.

Abstract

A non-destructive method based on instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) for the assay of aluminum in bone samples is described. The28Al signal obtained upon neutron irradiation includes contributions from both the reaction27Al(n,)28Al and31P(n,)28Al. The first reaction is with the thermal neutrons and the second one is with the fast neutrons. The contribution from the31P reaction is calculated from the fact that Ca/P ratio in bone mineral is constant and the amount of calcium can be measured from the thermal reaction48Ca(n, )49Ca. The aluminum values obtained by the INAA procedure agreed within 10% of those obtained by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. With this assay the levels of aluminum in normal bones (<70 g g–1 apatite) cannot be determined reliably but higher aluminum levles in bone biopsies associated with Al toxicity, e.g. some patients with renal osteodystrophy, can be determined with a precision of ±10%.

Abstract

The constant-volume combustion energies of the lead salts of 2-hydroxy-3,5-dinitropyridine (2HDNPPb) and 4-hydroxy-3,5-dinitropyridine (4HDNPPb), ΔU c (2HDNPPb(s) and 4HDNPP(s)), were determined as –4441.922.43 and –4515.741.92 kJ mol–1 , respectively, at 298.15 K. Their standard enthalpies of combustion, Δc m H θ(2HDNPPb(s) and 4HDNPPb(s), 298.15 K), and standard enthalpies of formation, Δr m H θ(2HDNPPb(s) and 4HDNPPb(s), 298.15 K) were as –4425.812.43, –4499.631.92 kJ mol–1 and –870.432.76, –796.652.32 kJ mol–1 , respectively. As two combustion catalysts, 2HDNPPb and 4HDNPPb can enhance the burning rate and reduce the pressure exponent of RDX–CMDB propellant.
