The sorption of hydrolized iron(III) and plutonium(IV) species by silica gel has been studied. It is shown that both mononuclear
and polynuclear hydroxo complexes of iron(III) and plutonium(IV) display an increased and specific sorption activity in respect
to silica gel.

The present work deals with the investigation of U(VI) and Fe(III) state in the wide range of pH and metal-ion concentrations.
A set of methods (ultrafiltration, adsorption on glass surface, migration in electric field, ion exchange, dialysis, spectrophotometry)
were used to determine the region of mono- and polynuclear hydroxide complex formation.

The soprtion behaviour of Fe(III), Cr(III), Sc(III), Y(III) and U(VI) toward cationite KU-2 and silica gel under hydrolysis condition has been studied. The role of mononuclear and polynuclear hydroxo complexes in sorption is demonstrated and the mechanism of the sorption process is analyzed.
