Investigations on the baking quality of winter wheat, which is the most important bread cereal in Hungary, have been in the focus of attention for a long time. it is useful to study the theoretical and practical aspects of European quality testing systems, because different European methods are generally mutually accepted in the EU. Many recognised testing methods have been developed in Hungary over the last hundred years. In the present experiments studies were made on the effect of the year, variety and mineral fertilization and their interactions on alveographic parameters. in the years examined, the main factor which determined the alveographic values was found to be the variety. fertilization had a significant effect on the examined parameters, but in most cases no regular trends were observed. The year only modified wheat quality in interactions.

This paper presents an analysis of the Arruda accessory pathway localization method for patients suffering from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, with modifications to increase the overall accuracy. The Arruda method was tested on a total of 79 cases, and 91.1% localization performance was reached. After a deeper analysis of each decision point of the Arruda localization method, we considered that the lead aVF was not as relevant as other leads (I, II, III, V1) used. The branch of the decision tree, which evaluates the left ventricle positions, was entirely replaced using different decision criteria based on the same biological parameters. The modified algorithm significantly improves the localization accuracy in the left ventricle, reaching 94.9%. An accurate localization performance of non-invasive methods is relevant because it can enlighten the necessary invasive interventions, and it also reduces the discomfort caused to the patient.

The orderSchizosaccharomycetalescontains a dimorphic and two yeast species.Sch. japonicuscan form both yeast cells and mycelium, depending on the substrate and the culturing conditions.Sch. pombeis a strictly unicellular organism, but it can be forced to form mycelial cell chains by inactivating members of thesepgene family. The mutations in most of thesepgenes confer pleitropic phenotypes indicating functional involvement in MAP-kinase-mediated signalling pathways. Two of them were found to encode transcription factor homologues of other eukaryotes.

Abstract  

57Fe-conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) — a sensitive tool to analyze the phase composition of corrosion products on the surface of stainless steel — was applied to study real specimens from the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary. The primary circuit side of the heat exchanger tubes was studied on selected samples cut out from the steam generators during regular maintenance. Mostly Cr-and Ni-substituted magnetite, amorphous Fe-oxides/oxyhydroxides as well as the signal of bulk austenitic steel of the tubes were detected. The level of Cr-and Ni-substitution in the magnetite phase could be estimated from the Mössbauer spectra. It is suggested that Cr-Ni substitution occurs simultaneously so that the inverse spinel structure of magnetite is preserved up to a certain limit which appears to be roughly at [Fe3+]tet[Fe2+ 1/4Ni2+ 3/4Fe3+ 1/4Cr3+ 3/4]octO4. Further decrease of the iron content of this phase results in the formation of nickel chromite of regular spinel structure, with very low Fe content. This transformation may be responsible for the hybrid structure of the protective oxide layer, being substantially accelerated by previously performed, factory developed and proposed AP-CITROX decontamination cycles.

Summary  

This paper describes the Mössbauer investigations of iron(III) salts in aqueous solutions in the presence of indole-3-alkanoic acid ligands. The measurements showed two parallel reactions between the ligands and ferric ions: a complex formation and a redox process. The oxidation process takes place in the ligands, and a part of Fe3+is reduced to Fe2+.

Foregoing researches made on the N/OFQ system brought up a possible role for this system in cardiovascular regulation. In this study we examined how N/OFQ levels of the blood plasma changed in acute cardiovascular diseases. Three cardiac patient groups were created: enzyme positive acute coronary syndrome (EPACS, n = 10), enzyme negative ACS (ENACS, n = 7) and ischemic heart disease (IHD, n = 11). We compared the patients to healthy control subjects (n = 31). We found significantly lower N/OFQ levels in the EPACS [6.86 (6.21–7.38) pg/ml], ENACS [6.97 (6.87–7.01) pg/ml and IHD groups [7.58 (7.23–8.20) pg/ml] compared to the control group [8.86 (7.27–9.83) pg/ml]. A significant correlation was detected between N/OFQ and white blood cell count (WBC), platelet count (PLT), creatine kinase (CK), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) and cholesterol levels in the EPACS group.Decreased plasma N/OFQ is closely associated with the presence of acute cardiovascular disease, and the severity of symptoms has a significant negative correlation with the N/OFQ levels. We believe that the rate of N/OFQ depression is in association with the level of ischemic stress and the following inflammatory response. Further investigations are needed to clarify the relevance and elucidate the exact effects of the ischemic stress on the N/OFQ system.

Seed bank collections have multiple benefits: store genetic material for conservation and research, and their data can also provide valuable scientific information. The Pannon Seed Bank was established during an EU LIFE+ project between 2010 and 2014 with the target to collect and store seeds of approx. 50% of the wild native vascular flora of the Pannonian Biogeographic Region, seed accessions of at least 800 storable species. This task was fully achieved by the end of the project, as altogether 1,853 seed accessions of 910 species are stored. The aim of the present paper is to provide access to the collection data and metadata of the Pannon Seed Bank as it was completed by the end of the project. The collection campaign involved about 40 experts and covered the whole country. Collection and storing applied standard methodology, based on the ENSCONET project. The collection data published in this paper can be used manifold. Geographical data on species occurrences are major input for nature conservation and research. Seed collection date is valuable for ecological studies of phytophagous insects, frugivorous birds and mammals, etc. The database can be partner to international databases (like GBIF) or research infrastructures (e.g. LifeWatch). Hopefully, this data paper will contribute to further motivate the development of native seed collections and their use for conservation and research in Hungary.
