Abstract
The loss of lead in various kinds of biological materials after drying and ashing is studied by using203Pb as tracer which is intraveneously injected into mice. The experimental results show that although the oven ashing can be used for determining the lead in samples of lung, kidney, and liver, etc., the oxygen plasma and high pressure digestion are the most suitable methods for the determination of lead in biological materials.
Abstract
A procedure for the determination of lead in various biological and environmental samples by203Pb radioisotope dilution substoichiometric method is presented. The accuracy of the method by comparison with the literature values of reference materials appears to be good. The standard deviation of the method is less than 10%, and detection limit is about 0.1 g of lead.
New high-molecular-weight glutenin (HMW glutenin) sequences isolated from six Psathyrostachys juncea accessions by thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR differ from previous sequences from this species. They showed novel modifications in all of the structural domains, with unique C-terminal residues, and their N-terminal lengths were the longest among the HMW glutenins reported to date. In their repetitive domains, there were three repeatable motif units: 13-residue [GYWH(/I/Y)YT(/Q)S(/T)VTSPQQ], hexapeptide (PGQGQQ), and tetrapeptide (ITVS). The 13-residue repeats were restricted to the current sequences, while the tetrapeptides were only shared by D-hordein and the current sequences. However, these sequences were not expressed as normal HMW glutenin proteins because an in-frame stop codon located in the C-termini interrupted the intact open reading frames. A phylogenetic analysis supported different origins of the P. juncea HMW glutenin sequences than that revealed by a previous study. The current sequences showed a close relationship with D-hordein but appeared to be more primitive.
The cereal endosperm provides nutrients for seedling growth. The effects of seed components in seedling establishments under salt stress are, however, not yet fully explored. In this study, 60 barley recombinant inbred lines derived from Lewis × Karl cross were grown in four different environments, and the seed contents of starch, total soluble protein, phytate, total phenolics, total flavonoids and total inorganic phosphorus were determined in the harvested grains. Seeds of each line from the four environments were also assayed for seedling growth under saline treatments from 0 to 400 mM NaCl. Root and shoot lengths after 7 days decreased with increasing salt concentration. Correlations between seed components and either root or shoot length were established across the four seed sources. ANOVA showed a significant environment/source effect for both seed components and seedling growth, although the latter was less affected by the seed-production environment. Modeling seedling length across multiple salinities for each seed source showed that the environment with the most saline-tolerant root-growth curve was that associated the highest seed phosphorus content. Correlations between seed components and seedling growth traits highlighted phytate and total inorganic phosphorus as key components for seedling growth under moderate salinities. Seed phytate contents benefited seedling growth, even at high salinities, suggesting an additional role for this seed component under stressful growth conditions, possibly linked to its potential function as an osmolyte source.
Abstract
The heat capacities of chrysanthemic acid in the temperature range from 80 to 400 K were measured with a precise automatic adiabatic calorimeter. The chrysanthemic acid sample was prepared with the purity of 0.9855 mole fraction. A solid-liquid fusion phase transition was observed in the experimental temperature range. The melting point, T m, enthalpy and entropy of fusion, Δfus H m, Δfus S m, were determined to be 390.7410.002 K, 14.510.13 kJ mol-1, 37.130.34 J mol-1 K-1, respectively. The thermodynamic functions of chrysanthemic acid, H (T)-H(298.15), S (T)-S(298.15) and G (T)-G (298.15) were reported with a temperature interval of 5 K. The TG analysis under the heating rate of 10 K min-1 confirmed that the thermal decomposition of the sample starts at ca. 410 K and terminates at ca. 471 K. The maximum decomposition rate was obtained at 466 K. The purity of the sample was determined by a fractional melting method.

The heat capacities of trans-(R)-3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid in the temperature range from 78 to 389 K were measured with a precise automatic adiabatic calorimeter. The sample was prepared with the purity of 0.9874 mole fraction. A solid-liquid fusion phase transition was observed in the experimental temperature range. The melting point, T m, enthalpy and entropy of fusion, Δfus H m, Δfus S m, were determined to be 344.75±0.02 K, 13.75±0.07 kJ mol−1, 39.88±0.21 J K−1 mol−1, respectively. The thermodynamic functions of the sample, H (T)-H (298.15), S (T)-S (298.15) and G (T)-G (298.15), were reported with a temperature interval of 5 K. The thermal decomposition of the sample was studied by TG analysis, the thermal decomposition starts at ca. 421 K and terminates at ca. 535 K, the maximum decomposition rate was obtained at 525 K. The order of reaction, pre-exponential factor and activation energy, are n=0.14, A=1.15·108 min−1, E=66.27 kJ mol−1, respectively.
Abstract
Yaozhou Kiln at Lidipo and Shangdian are two independent porcelain kiln groups of Yaozhou kiln series in Shanxi Province. Both of them were consisted of some individual porcelain kilns. The samples of 20 pieces of porcelain sherds produced in Shangdian and 43 pieces of porcelain sherds made in Lidipo sites which produced in Kin Dynasty (1115–1234 A.D.) have been collected. The main chemical compositions in body were determined by X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The contents of trace elements were measured using neutron activation analysis (NAA). Principal component analysis (PCA) and stepwise discriminant analysis were used to study the provenance characteristic of these samples. The results indicated that the main components and trace elements in the specimen can be used to reveal the provenance characteristic.
Abstract
The thermal behavior of copper(II) 4-nitroimidazolate (CuNI) under static and dynamic states are studied by means of high-pressure DSC (PDSC) and TG with the different heating rates and the combination technique of in situ thermolysis cell with rapid-scan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (thermolysis/RSFTIR). The results show that the apparent activation energy and pre-exponential factor of the major exothermic decomposition reaction of CuNI obtained by Kissinger’s method are 233.2 kJ mol−1 and 1017.95 s−1, respectively. The critical temperature of the thermal explosion and the adiabatic time-to-explosion of CuNI are 601.97 K and 4.4∼4.6 s, respectively. The decomposition of CuNI begins with the split of the C-NO2 and C-H bonds, and the decomposition process of CuNI under dynamic states occurs less readily than those under static states because the dynamic nitrogen removes the strong oxidative decomposition product (NO2). The above-mentioned information on thermal behavior is quite useful for analyzing and evaluating the stability and thermal charge rule of CuNI.
Crop seeds are the main staples in human diet, especially in undeveloped countries. In any case, the diet needs to be rich not only in macro-nutrients like carbohydrates and protein, but also in micro-nutrients. Nevertheless, both the macro- and micro-nutrients presented in seeds largely vary in consequence of field and environment conditions. In this research, 60 lines of a barley RILs population segregating for the SSR marker Hvm74, which is genetically linked to the GPC (grain protein content) locus (HvNAM-1), were studied in 4 environments (two growing years and two field managements) by carrying out a comprehensive profile of seed macro- (starch, total nitrogen and total soluble protein) and micro-nutrients (phytate, phenolics, flavonoids, Pi, Zn and Fe). Under field conditions, all the components were largely affected by the environment, but TN (total nitrogen) exhibited high genotype contribution, while micro-nutrients displayed higher genotype × environments interactions (GEI) than macro-nutrients. In order to approach the effects of carbon-nitrogen (C–N) balance on other seed components, two C/N ratios were calculated: C/TN (CNR1) and C/TSP (CNR2). CNR2 exhibited stronger negative correlations with all micro-nutrients. Hence, the significant GEI and its negative relationships with CNR2 highlighted the different characters of micro-nutrients in barley seeds.
