Abstract  

The enthalpies of dilution, Δdil H m, have been measured for LiCl+Li2B4O7+H2O system at T=298.15 K by using a RD496-III microcalorimeter. A suitable measurement method was used to obtain the better data of the enthalpies of dilution for the ternary mixing solutions to low concentrations. The relative apparent molar enthalpies, L ϕ, have been determined and the relationships between L ϕ and ionic strength I at different molal fractions of Li2B4O7 were obtained. The effect of the borate Li2B4O7 on the heat properties for the studied system was discussed.

Summary

Oroxylin A (5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxyflavone), which has showed multiple pharmacological effects, was semi-synthesized chemically as a pharmaceutical agent. Its impurities, degradation products and their formation pathways remain unknown. In the present study, two impurities (5,6,7-trihydroxyflavone, 5-hydroxy-6,7-dimethoxytlavone) and a degradation product (5,7-dihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone) in Oroxylin A bulk drug substance were identified, and their formation pathways were proposed. A reversed phase liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of Oroxylin A and the three compounds was developed on a C18 column using methanol-acetonitrile-0.1% acetic acid (54:23:23, v/v/v) as the mobile phase. The detection was performed at 271 nm. The method was validated to be robust, precise, specific and linear between 4 and 40 μg mL−1; the limits of detection and quantification of Oroxylin A were 0.01 and 0.04 μg mL−1, respectively. The developed method was found to be suitable to check the quality of bulk samples of Oroxylin A at the time of batch release and also during its stability studies (long term and accelerated stability).

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects approximately 10% of the world’s adult population; it is within the top 20 causes of death worldwide, and its impact on patients and their families can be devastating. World Kidney Day and International Women’s Day in 2018 coincide, thus offering an opportunity to reflect on the importance of women’s health and specifically their kidney health, on the community, and the next generations, as well as to strive to be more curious about the unique aspects of kidney disease in women so that we may apply those learnings more broadly. Girls and women, who make up approximately 50% of the world’s population, are important contributors to society and their families. Gender differences continue to exist around the world in access to education, medical care, and participation in clinical studies. Pregnancy is a unique state for women, which not only offers an opportunity for diagnosis of kidney disease, but also states where acute and chronic kidney diseases may manifest, and which may impact future generations with respect to kidney health. There are various autoimmune and other conditions that are more likely to impact women with profound consequences for childbearing, and on the fetus. Women have different complications on dialysis than men and are more likely to be donors than recipients of kidney transplants. In this editorial, we focus on what we do and do not know about women, kidney health, and kidney disease and what we might learn in the future to improve outcomes worldwide.

Abstract  

Samarium-153-EDTMP (ethylene diamine tetramethylene phosphonate), for its promising biological properties, has been proved as a palliating therapeutic agent for boné cancer in human beings. In this article, we present the results on synthesis and structure analysis of Samarium-153-EDTMP. In a basic medium,153Sm-EDTMP can be readily prepared with a complexing yield not less than 98%, and it is confirmed that the ratio of the ligand to Sm is 11, and the charge of153Sm-EDTMP is negative two.

Abstract  

The effects of fullerenes, including fellerene soot (FS), extracted fullerene soot (EFS) and pure C60 on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) compared with traditional carbon black (CB) catalyst has been studied by employing thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and ignition temperature experiments. The results showed that the addition of CB and FS to AP reduced the activation energy as well as the temperature at maximum decomposition rate, but that of EFS and pure C60 had little effect on the thermal decomposition of AP, and among all catalysts, FS was the best one.

Premature termination codons (PTCs) are an important reason for the silence of highmolecular- weight glutenin subunits in Triticum species. Although the Glu-A1y gene is generally silent in common wheat, we here isolated an expressed Glu-A1y gene containing a PTC, named 1Ay8.3, from Triticum monococcum ssp. monococcum (AmAm, 2n = 2x = 14). Despite the presence of a PTC (TAG) at base pair positions 1879–1881 in the C-terminal coding region, this did not obviously affect 1Ay8.3 expression in seeds. This was demonstrated by the fact that when the PTC TAG of 1Ay8.3 was mutated to the CAG codon, the mutant in Escherichia coli bacterial cells expressed the same subunit as in the seeds. However, in E. coli, 1Ay8.3 containing the PTC expressed a truncated protein with faster electrophoretic mobility than that in seeds, suggesting that PTC translation termination suppression probably occurs in vivo (seeds) but not in vitro (E. coli). This may represent one of only a few reports on the PTC termination suppression phenomenon in genes.
