In this interpretation of Horace carm . I 3 the earlier analyses — among others the date of the carmen, the poem is not a whole, the ship is metapher of the creating activity of Vergil — are discussed. The interpretation argues that the structure of carm . I 3 is not disintegrated, the poem is an art of dialogue with Vergil, the negativity of Horace’s mythological examples expresses his scepsis in connection with the Golden Age-conception by Vergil in the Georgica .

Abstract  

The effect of thermal treatment on the electrical conductivity was studied for a quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor, (DIMET)2I3 (DIMET=dimethyl(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene). After heating the samples up to a temperature between 340 and 370 K, the electric resistivity was measured at low temperature down to 2 K and under pressure up to 1.6 Gpa. (DIMET)2I3 shows irreversible decrease in the electric resistivity between 350 and 356 K on heating. It was found that the heating above 350 K suppresses the spin-density-wave transition at 40 K and another metal-insulator transition appears at 18 K.

Abstract  

Palladium complexation in concentrated nitric acid solutions was studied by UV/Vis absorption spectrophotometry. The ionic strength of the solutions was fixed to I = 1, 3, or 5 mol dm−3 (M) by mixing of HNO3 and HClO4. The major palladium species were found to be Pd2+, PdNO3 +, and Pd(NO3)2. The formation constant of PdNO3 + was determined to be β 1 = 1.32 (I = 1 M), 1.49 (I = 3 M), or 1.47 (I = 5 M), while that of Pd(NO3)2 to be β 2 = 0.45 (I = 3 M) or 0.14 (I = 5 M).

The extraction of SbI3 by various organic solvents has been investigated as a function of H2SO4, KI and organic additive concentrations. At [Sb3+]: [I]≈3, extraction increases in the order hexane → cyclohexane → kerosene → CCl4→CHCl3 → benzene → toluene → o-xylene → nitrobenzene.

Abstract  

The glass transition and relaxation processes in polystyrene resins with the number average molecular weight ranging from 7.0·102 to 9.8·104 were studied with the positron annihilation technique. The pick-off annihilation lifetime of ortho-positronium ( 3) and its intensity (I 3) were measured in the temperature range from 20 to 430 K. The glass transition temperature (T g) was determined as an onset temperature coefficient of 3.T g shows the molecular weight dependence in these samples. BelowT g, local motions were detected by measurements ofI 3. The local motions could be observed above 100 K in this experiment.I 3 show the minimum at around 250 K and it does not show molecular weight dependence.
