‘Middle music’ and the ‘middle music theory’ of the German Democratic Republic have received little interest, although their products survive until today. Kurt Schwaen is known for his compositions for folk instruments and for his famous children’s songs such as “Wenn Mutti früh zur Arbeit geht” [When mom goes to work early in the morning]. Schwaen was an author of music for the folk, namely for amateur singers, mostly children, or lay instrumentalists, who played in mandolin or accordion orchestras. Schwaen’s compositions may be considered as a variant of socialistic realism in music. They form a modern folk music by both respecting neomodal writing, derived from the 1920s, as well as by including international folk material and promising an authentic and unsuspicious tune which German folk music lacked since the Third Reich.

Abstract

The extraction of HNO3, thorium and uranium were studied in the presence of hydrofluoric acid. The extraction constants of both the acids are shown to be close to one another which results in their mutual displacement from the organic phase. Contrary to uranium, the extraction of thorium is much reduced as the concentration of hydrofluoric acid increases which may be explained by a stronger complexation of Th by fluoride ion in the aqueous phase.

Abstract

The possibility of complex reprocessing of thermal off-steam and gas stream after its condensation is discussed. Two step pertraction process is proposed; in the first step the acids are extracted, and the metals in the second one. The principle flowsheet and material balance equations are given.

Abstract

Vapour-liquid and liquid-solid equilibria were studied in the system Th(NO3)4-UO2(NO3)2-HNO3-H2O. Hexahydrate of thorium nitrate as well as hexa- and trihydrate of uranyl nitrate were supposed to be formed in this system. Empiric equations of solubility isotherms were derived for 25 °C and liquid phase densities were determined. It was established that nitric acid was salted out into the vapour phase by the nitrates present in the system both separately and simultaneously. Empiric equation was derived that describes the relationship between the HNO3 concentration of condensate and that of all liquid phase components.
