In order to develop and enhance the quality of life in Tunisian urban spaces, the integration of street furniture became a new challenge for urban designers to use new methods and techniques to combine functionality and aesthetics into their design. The main objective of this paper is to focus on the analysis of the street furniture user’s needs in urban spaces to understand and discuss the requirements that should be considered while designing.
Triggered by the events of September 11, 2001, the Finnish Government took the initiative to promote radiation measurement
techniques for counter terrorist activities. Consequently, the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority developed an advanced
mobile unit for radionuclide source finding. The key design requirement was the capability to measure, analyze and communicate
the results in real-time. A vehicle was built with mean response time. The in-situ gamma-spectrometric measurement start to
alarm the operation center in 8 seconds. In-situ gamma-spectrometric data from both test and surveillance missions are presented.
The removal of cesium from aqueous waste solution was investigated in a column setup using a relatively coarse SuperLigÒ644 resin. The bed volume (BV=140) at the onset of breakthrough surpassed the design requirement of 100 BV at 50% breakthrough,
and also corresponds to 99.96% cesium removal. Cesium elution with 0.5M HNO3was satisfactory with a peak BV of 2.5. The elution BV for C/C0=0.01 was 10, which is less than the target of 15 BV. The percent of sorbed cesium eluted was 99.88%. Further, the BV of the
various solutions used for the supporting process steps was sufficient.
