Abstract

Divalent transition metal nitroprussides form a family of microporous materials which lose their crystallization water (coordinated and zeolitic) below 100°C and then remain stable up to above 150°C. The dehydration process of representative samples in their stable phases was studied by thermo-gravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The copper complex dehydrates in a single step through a practically irreversible process. For cadmium and cobalt complexes the water evolution on heating takes place in two stages. The first one, where only zeolitic waters are removed, is dominated by a diffusion mechanism while, during the loss of the strongly bonded waters (second stage) the material framework effect is added. The involved activation energy and its dependence on the conversion degree were estimated evaluating the thermo-gravimetric data according to an isoconversion model.

Abstract

A kinetic study of isothermal step annealing of neutron-irradiated sodium nitroprusside has been performed. The influence of water and -irradiation on the behaviour of the compound is analyzed and compared with previous results obtained with the analogous compound Na2/Fe/CN/5NO/.2H2O. It is possible to characterize two different fundamental processes that, in spite of occurring at two different temperatures, present the same activation energy than the hydrated system.

Abstract

The Mössbauer spectra of 29 nitroprussides have been measured and the parameters and correlated with the polarizing power Z/r2 of the outer cations. There is no overall correlation but there are limited groups in which a trend can be ascertained. In isoelectronic sequences such as Li+, Be2+; Mn2+, Fe3+, where the outer electronic shell remains fixed, while Z/r2 increases, a definite trend of decreasing and with increasing Z/r2 is observed.

Organometallic compounds find wide applications such as in catalyses, syntheses, and also in biochemistry. Some of them can be used for the analysis of trace quantities of organic compounds which are regarded as toxic to human beings. Many pesticides have very low lethal dose (LD50) which could be fatal to humans, even in small quantities. The traces of many pesticides are being reported to be present in vegetables, fruits, and even in processed foods. Monocrotophos is one such pesticide which is approved for use in India and has caused many suicidal and accidental poisoning cases. Thus, a simple and sensitive method was necessary for its detection. We, in this study, reveal the application of sodium nitroprusside for the analysis of monocrotophos using a novel reaction with simple, cost-effective, but fast and reliable thin-layer chromatography technique.

In the present study we investigated the mechanism of nitric oxide induced relaxation of renal arteries, with or without endothelium, taken from normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive (SH) rats. With this purpose in mind, the effects of the nitric oxide donor, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), with and without L-arg in the medium, on isolated rat renal artery relaxation were studied. Relaxing effect of SNP was higher in normotensive (10-5 M of SNP caused 220% of relaxation in the cases with endothelium and 240% without endothelium), in comparison with SH rats (100% of relaxation with endothelium and 150% without). L-arg antagonized the relaxing effect of SNP in the examined renal arteries, more in normotensive (100-160% with endothelium and 110-195% without) than in hypertensive ones (0-10% with endothelium and 35-75% without) at SNP concentrations 10-7-10-5 M, respectively (*P<0.05; **P<0.001). L-arg did not significantly change relaxing effect of SNP in the isolated renal arteries with endothelium taken from SH rats, which show that L-arg, by modifying the chemical versatility of NO into redox active forms -nitrosonium (NO+) and -nitroxyl (NO-), produces different relaxing effects in normotensive and hypertensive isolated arteries of rats, with or without endothelium, potentiating the role of nitroxyl induced relaxation in SH rats.

Abstract

The effects of the /n,/ reaction on Na2[Fe/CN/5NO].2H2O in solid phase were studied using low voltage electrophoresis for identifying the different chemical species. A step annealing of irradiated material was also performed. Rate constants of involved reactions, and activation energies were calculated for the annealing of crystal defects.
