Abstract  

We report a new method of making empirical measurements of the sensitization of nitrocompounds by amines based on thermal analysis. The method is sensitive, accurate and reproducible. We have used this method to measure the sensitization of nitromethane, N-methyl-N-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl) nitramine (tetryl), picric acid and trinitrotoluene (TNT) by a number of aliphatic amines.

Abstract  

Photooxidation of cyclooctene by molecular oxygen in the presence of tetraphenyl porphyrin (H2TPP), tetramesityle porphyrin (H2TMP), tetrakis dichlorophenyl porphyrin (H2TDCPP) and ClFeTMP, ClFeTPP, tetrakis pentaflouro phenyl porphyrin iron chloride (ClFeTPFPP), ClFeTDCPP, ClMnTPP, ClMnTPFPP, ZnTDCPP, ClMnTDCPP, ClCoTDCPP, ClCoTPP and ZnTPP as sensitizers has been studied. 98% cyclooctene conversion with 97% selectivity toward cyclooctene oxide was obtained by H2TDCPP and ZnTDCPP sensitizers. The effect of electron-donating and withdrawing groups on the porphyrin macrocycle ring showed that non-metalled porphyrins with electron-withdrawing groups have higher reactivity (H2TDCPP > H2TPP > H2TMP). The order of reactivity for metalloporphyrins is Zn > Mn > Fe > Co for the same porphyrin ligand. A turnover number (TON) up to 6,000 with selectivity up to 95% was obtained by ClMnTDCPP. In free-base porphyrins and Zn porphyrins, singlet oxygen production is the major route for oxidation, whereas in Mn and Fe porphyrins, two parallel pathways for oxidation products is proposed.

A legújabb irodalmi adatok alapján a Graves-kór és az allergiás betegségek immunválaszában a T helper 2-dominancia érvényesül. Ezt bizonyítja a regulatorikus T-sejteknek az antigén- (vagy allergén-) specifikus immunválaszban igazolt közös szerepe. Célok: Felvetődik, hogy az allergiás tünetek az autoimmun Graves-kórban betegséget kiváltó vagy progressziót okozó tényezők lehetnek. A szezonális allergiák előfordulása megmagyarázhatja a Graves-kór megjelenésében mutatkozó fluktuációt. Módszerek: A szerző 327 pajzsmirigybetegnél (Graves-kór, Hashimoto-thyreoiditis, euthyreoid struma) vizsgálta 20 inhalatív allergénnel szemben a specifikus IgE-szintek előfordulását. Az allergénspecifikus IgE-szintek mérése Western blot-módszerrel és denzitometriás kiértékeléssel történt. Eredmények: 88 (58%) Graves-kóros, 51 (46%) Hashimoto-thyreoiditises és 31 (55%) euthyreoid strumás betegnél lehetett az allergénekkel szemben sensitisatiót kimutatni. Szignifikáns különbség csak az egyes allergének esetében mutatkozott a Graves-kóros (ophthalmopathiától függően), illetve az euthyreoid strumás csoportok között, pl. penicillinum notatum, lisztatka, éger-, rozspollen. Az allergének szezonális hónapja alapján képzett 4 csoportban a Graves-kór megjelenésének hónapja szoros összefüggést mutatott a korai fák és a gyomnövények szezonjával (P < 0,019 a Graves-kór és a Hashimoto-thyreoiditis között). Graves-kórban 17 betegnél és Hashimoto-thyreoiditisben 7 betegnél egyezett meg a betegség megjelenésének hónapja az allergén szezonjával (P < 0,028). Következtetések: Összegezve megállapítható, hogy az allergiás sensitisatio gyakoribb előfordulást mutat Graves-kórban, és e pajzsmirigybetegség megjelenésében megfigyelhető fluktuáció hátterében az allergénekre jellemző szezonalitás is érvényesül.

The effect of melatonin on neurogenic reactivity of the juvenile rat tail artery segment was studied. The electrical field stimulation-evoked contraction of the segment decreased in the course of the experiment. Melatonin (0.1 µM) applied at different time points of the experiment produced an increase in the contraction, which directly correlated with a spontaneous decrease in the electrical field stimulation-evoked response. The increase in the potentiating effect of melatonin in the course of the experiment was not due to sensitization of the segment to this substance. Noradrenaline-evoked contraction of the vessel segment was not changed by melatonin. The data indicate that melatonin restores the diminished neurogenic reactivity of the juvenile rat tail artery probably by potentiation of the contractile response of the vessel, but this effect is hardly due to a change in sensitivity of the postjunctional membrane to noradrenaline.

Context sensitive approach signifies a teaching and learning method in architecture, a strategy of teaching design whereby first-year students in architecture learn to be sensitive to complex context in a holistic way. In this time of increasing globalisation, searching for the spiritual determination of architectural and urban design becomes one of the most important components of education. The main issue of this research into educational practice is, with the aid of practical experiences a theoretic background, to present the methodology. This paper first gives a brief overview of the Hungarian architectural educational system and then focuses on the special question of context. Chapters about sensitization, communication skills, practice and theory, make it simpler to understand the principal elements and goals of first-year design education, even where they do not and cannot exist distinctly.

Abstract

Mn4+ doped and Eu3+, Yb3+ co-doped MgAl2Si2O8-based phosphors were prepared by conventional solid state reaction at 1,300 °C. They were characterized by thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, photoluminescence, and scanning electron microscopy. The luminescence mechanism of the phosphors, which showed broad red emission bands in the range of 600–715 nm and had a different maximum intensity when activated by UV illumination, was discussed. Such a red emission can be attributed to the intrinsic 2 E4 A 2 transitions of Mn4+.
